2026 Knights Coaching and Football Staff

Another alleged swing and miss from the front office that’s now allegedly Keary and Davis.

Still don’t have a halves coach and no kicking and catching specialist as far as I know…

Also do we have a head of performance

Can’t say I’m too sad about missing out on the AFL bloke. I’ve seen abit of AFL and the Venus de Milo could catch better than those stick insects. Post Nam Lieutenant Dan could kick better too.

Seems to have worked out pretty well for the Storm. Coates couldn’t catch a cold when he first went down there, now he’s almost unstoppable in the air

Don’t think the Roosters would’ve picked him up either if they didn’t think it was worthwhile

You’re probably right to be honest but AFL legitimately softens my chubby.

The ball is harder to kick and catch than any sort of rugby ball, which is an interesting choice to make in a game which is mostly kicking and catching. Cos then you’re just watching guys shank kicks and fumble catches… I guess for some reason people are entertained by this? I don’t get it and I think it’s the worst sport in the entire world. It’s so boring and I reject the notion that the sport has any tactics at all. It’s literally just who has the best cardio.

I don’t like it either, I think it’s a stupid sport but I don’t think it’s a bad idea to employ one of them for catching bombs since that’s one thing AFL players do well is get up high for catches. Our players have spent the past five years avoiding this so I think any help they can get would be good.

Don’t think they need an AFL coach for kicking though, think it makes more sense to get a good league or union kicker to help our spine players improve their kicking games. Given it’s a completely different sport in regards to kicking.

The other key area I hope they focus on in the off season is passing. Most of the team suck at it, frankly. They need to learn firstly how to throw clean crisp passes out in front so they can move the ball across the field quickly. Second they really need practice at pacing while running at a full pace. And thirdly, drawing a passing. I don’t understand why these basic skills haven’t been drilled into them, honestly I don’t know what AOB did at training most of the time. However they pretty much all need to get better at these 3 things

I think AOB supplied them with Strawberry milkshakes all training

It's a shame Dom will miss most of the pre-season if we can get a quality AFL type skills coach.
He is the guy who has the most potential to be a elite under a high ball - being a giant who can jump but can't catch.

I often wonder how these blokes, having played football since under 6's, get all the way to first grade without these skills.

I find it truly baffling. How you can make the highest level of your sport and not able to execute one of the sport’s fundamental skills.

Connor Watson was a prime example, took until his last year here to learn how to run and pass at the same time. Up until then he had no idea. Would make a break and the ball could end up anywhere except the support players hands.

They don't practice these skills because how often are you flat out and passing on a footy field. They should practice these things because it's a fundamental. The ones that gets me are the fast passes to the guy who is right next to you🤦‍♂️. Soft bloody hands!

Well, the Knights hardly ever.

However, maybe if they tried moving the ball around at more than a slow jog they might actually make some breaks.

Pretty sure the likes of the Storm, Broncos, Manly, Fins, Cowboys, Roosters etc practice moving the ball at pace. All those teams move the ball very quickly, especially the Storm who do everything at pace. There’s no way they just turn up on game day zipping the ball around without practice.

The Knights do everything at a snail’s pace, and even when they do occasionally make a break they inevitably find a way to fck it up, either through lack of practice or confidence or both. The Broncos women’s team move the ball around at pace better than the Knights men’s team.

Our best players are KP, Sharpe, Brown, Best, Lucas etc if they want to win games, they’re going to need to get a lot better at moving the ball around quickly because it’s not like we’re going to dominate teams with our middle forwards.

lol yeah the bullet passes to a player right next to them is so dumb. It’s amazing how few players know how to play with soft hands.

I like it, he was a quality player.

There's a bit ofa Kiwi connection building at Newcastle.
Hopefully it helps Ponga and Brown play to there potentials.
Yeah he was one signing who came here under a bit of a cloud, but always gave everything for us and repaid that faith. Get the feeling he’d be a good voice to have around the place.
