Also wouldn’t hurt to be looking at a young Paceman and spinner for the future, it needs to start happening.
 
Apart from Head in the second innings, Australia were pathetic.

Maddinson, Marnus and Webster must be dropped!

I’m not going to waste anymore of my time discussing why Marnus must be axed!

Pace stocks arent a concern longterm, will need richardson to tie us over for a couple of years, hopefully guys like spencer johnson and lance morris can stay fit for the medium term. both are on the comeback trail from stress fractures in the back.
Unless form and results dictate it there isnt going to be the mass exodus people are anticipating i dont think.

1 poor day of test cricket isnt going to take anything away from the core group of players that are there.

We are in desperate need of genuine gritty test openers, the flow on effect of our failures up top to the middle order shouldnt be understated.
look at a guy like ponting he made a career out of spending the first session of nearly every innings in the pavillion, marnus has spent 3 years batting inside the first 5 overs.
 
Head 100. Boland 12 (59), better than Maddinson (I’m like lefty with Marnus, I still cannot believe Nic got picked as 35 year old in the oldest team in history 🪓 )

When Green is fit, I think they’ll go Renshaw Head Marnus Smith Green Carey Webster (he’s the next drop if fails next test/series, Renshaw and Marnus can spin. Find a 20 odd year old to develop at 6-7 instead of opener? Maybe head likes opening.
 
Theory with head why he might like opening - you never really switch off at 5 all test. Field - wait/you’re tense - bat then field. Whereas he’s in straight away and can relax when he’s out after an 89 ball cameo and he’s the type of guy that would love to chill out before fielding.
 
If scotty gets us to the new ball thats been a fantastic effort. Fingers crossed he can push through til tea which should be about 7 overs with the new pill, unlikely though 😬
