And Origin pays a lot more than the Kiwis, so would be a dumb move for him.

From memory, the backlash started by the way Ponga went about pulling out. Apparently he didn’t tell Mal, just announced it.

Then the media spotted another chance to create headlines and sell papers using Ponga as the headline, which they don’t do with other players

If I was Ponga, I’d be asking for a percentage as their income with how much they harass him and create headlines using his name

PVL said himself Teddy pulled out as he didn’t want to let his family down. Nothing to do with age.

I don’t care that Tedesco doesn’t play or chooses not to. His choice. It’s the hypocrisy of the media and Meninga having a sook that gets me.

Yep he’d be giving up Origin.

I’m going to be frank about this though: If Walsh is fit, he’s never getting picked again, and that’s the correct call. Walsh is a better player and has a way more genuine case of Queensland mindset/brainworms.

Agree, Billy loves Reece, I think he sees Reece as a younger version of him but with more natural talent.

KP will need to absolutely brain it next year to be picked.

If Billy is honest with himself he'd acknowledge the kid is on another planet from him. I am a certified Slater hater though lol.

It's not just injuries.

This kid is just better than him. Does more things well. Impacts the game more ways. Inspires his teammates more. More consistently is the decisive factor in winning and losing.

Obviously we hope he gets some injury luck, but Walsh misses plenty of games with injury too.

What I hope is he sees this kid do what he does and it lights a ****ing fire under him. I don't doubt Kalyn works harder at the game than I have at anything in my life, but he has to find a level beyond what he's done as a player before to catch up with this kid.

I've always thought the best individual player out of the Storm key cogs including Inglis was Billy Slater. Smith may have the accolades and durability and leadership but 10 times out of 10 if you want to take one of their players and put them in your team you're taking Billy.
That's why I always thought the comparisons between Smith and Joey were a bit lols.

Walsh has definitely moved ahead of Ponga, but things can change quickly. Walsh always a chance of missing out through injury or some disciplinary blunder. Could also see Ponga getting a bench spot, he’s done well there in the past.

Ponga’s Origin performance this year won’t have helped him at all, but Slater will know how much he was impacted by injury better than us.
 
Crazy stat I heard today. Melbourne's last premiership was in 2020. Brisbane won the spoon that year.

There are three players from the 2020 Grand Final still in Melbourne's team - it's just Pappy, Munster & Hughes.

There are six players from Brisbane's round 20 Spoon Bowl team playing for Brisbane on Sunday - Haas, Carrigan, Staggs, Arthars, Riki, Paix. And one player from that team (Coates) playing for Melbourne.
 
Cameron Smiths last year before he retired, Grant was with Melbourne but on loan with the Tigers. Could be Grants first premiership with the same spine winners of 2020.
