2025 Recruitment And Retention

Yes, he was a good link player and defender.
We got as much as our coach could get out of him, but Ciraldo has got some more this year. Will he be available for finals?
He sustained a fairly decent injury I thought.
You may be right , only caught a handful of dogs games this year. He was lock & looked good . Didn't even know he was injured again

Tuala to the Dogs is a bit strange. While I'm not his biggest fan there's definitely a couple of squads across the league where he could potentially contest for a starting spot - the Dogs are not one of those squads, and with Blake Wilson much younger and performing well this season he might not even be first drop there.

He'd probably be better off going to SL for a year or two to get some decent money and coming back when the 18th team comes in.

I've just been spending a bit of time looking at the Storm 'system' and what is the essence of what they do that is different to other clubs in the recruitment and retention space...and what stood out to me is not in their strategies to recruit their playing stocks but what they do in the recruitment and retention of their coaching, player development personnel and other elements in their back of house operational workforce:

Craig Bellamy – Head Coach(2003-2024)
Marc Brentnall – Assistant Coach and Ops Manager (2013-2024)
Aaron Bellamy – Assistant Coach (2017-2024)
Ryan Hinchcliffe – Assistant Coach (2019-2024, *player 2009-2015)
Todd Lowrie – Assistant Coach (2022-2024, *player 2010-2011
Jason Ryles – Senior Assistant Coach (2015-2020 and 2024)
Frank Ponissi – General Manager – Football (2007 – 2024)
Billy Slater – Specialist Coach (Part-time) (2019 -2024)
Cooper Cronk – Specialist Coach P/T for Roosters and Melbourne Storm (*player 2004-2017 )
Joel Selwood – Leadership Coach *(AFL Playing background with Geelong - Storm coaching role 2022-2024)
Matt Duffie – Pathways Coach (2022-2024 * player 209 - 2015)
Tim Glasby – Recruitment Officer and Pathways Manager (2021-2024, *player 2013-2017)

They clearly build their recruitment and retention of coaching and mentoring capability from those who can live and breathe the 'Storm' way....I think if I did the same level of investigation for the Roosters, I'd likely see a similar pattern.

What it also points to, is that those that leave the Storm system (AOB, Jason Ryles, etc) might know the 'Storm' way BUT it is not that simple to replicate their back of house operations because the Storm still control the 'Intellectual Property' which is tied up in their own brains trust.

Just found this really interesting to explore 🤔 ...

Volkmans manager a talking with clubs about next year that was one of the stranger things I’ve seen happen how his dragons signing fell through because of the injury. Also not sure if it’s the same manager

For a none starting position? We have Sharpe, Votano and Hunt has progressed very strongly in his first season.

He would t come here for a possible wing position. He should be absolutely targeted as a starting FB at a new franchise.

I wonder if he could play as a running 6

Yep, no denying Fa'alongo is a great talent, but as mentioned we already have so many similar players to him. The primary position we need and should be focusing on is a organising half-back. Pezet seems like the man we need to go after.

Pezet and cogger (if his forms continues) could be a good halves pairing. Crossland back to hooker.

It would be in our interest to sweeten the pot, give him an increase to current amount to achieve preferred result, let a club have him for say 70% we kick in 30% and slap in an extra 5-10% to him, we save 60% plus, estimated $500k
