2025 Recruitment And Retention

Lol at the Raiders though. Seriously, does Ricky stare at the Knights' annual calendars and have wet dreams over how many players he can get across to Canberra?

Next year's Raiders lineup includes:
Tapine
Saulo
Young
Starling
Levi
Martin
Hosking
Sasagi

Woolford just left as well. Add Leo to the list (most likely) for 2026, and possibly his brother.

🤣
Newcastle is the Raiders recruitment plan, and has been for years now.

Filling out the squad with ex-Knights castoffs aside I admire the way the Raiders attack recruitment, particularly in the juniors but it carries over to NRL recruiting as well. For a club that faces a lot of the same challenges as the Knights (arguably even more) they seem to be a lot more ambitious and proactive in that department.

The absolute dream is to have a Panthers-like self sufficient development system but recent history tells you there just aren't that many future NRL players running around in the Hunter anymore to build that system on the back of. Think Canberra's junior base is more comparable to the Knights' and they do a much better job at planning around it.

Honestly, we should just hold Leo and milk the whole $350k for next year. That's great value. And if he doesn't want to perform, he can sit in NSW cup and lose experience, its not that much $. If we try move him on we aren't gonna get that same value.

Strange is considered the future of that club. Not happening.

Fogarty they’ve signed to a deal specifically structured so that they can punt him the moment they decide one of their reserve halves like Ethan Sanders is ready for the job. Have had it in the back of my mind that there’s a good chance we’re going to end up with him eventually, as a sort of comic irony given the fact we all but signed him for a pie and can of coke at the end of 2019.

I’ve gotta say, I’ve done a bit of a 180 on this bloke. He’s making me wish we were in a position to compete for his signature.

Helps that he did play very very well this year, I think he’s already proven his point that he was a dominant half playing a smaller role for the benefit of the team. Then he backed it up with a really good game in the grand final.

Same, I can’t see them making the 8 but they won’t get the spoon again. Barring injury they have a good spine.

I can see Parra or Dragons possible spoon next year.

Been an awful month for the Knights. Lost Upton (immediately signs with the Broncos like she was a Christmas gift from the Knights and the Broncos got us nothing), missed Pezet (knocks back millions to play reggies for the Storm, what a prat), lost Leo (completely outbid, although surely $800-900k is overs) and Mam got a slap on the wrist (can't even wish ill on our enemies).

Maybe the solution to the Leo situation is to fast-track Tyrone and make him the new Leo, he was an all-black after all, but make sure we lock him up. IDK. Some good news would be nice.

No reason to let go Leo, unless Raiders give us someone in return which will no doubt be investigated.

Absolutely keep him here for a year whilst he is so cheap....if he starts phoning it in no problem, drop him to reserves. We can easily afford to have a $350k forward playing reserves.

Seriously cannot believe the money that has been offered to him.....no way he is an elite forward, but good luck to him.

Just on Upton, if your playing for a club that counts on you as their star, and you have to leave that club apparently against your will for compassionate reasons, break your contract. You know, you are letting that club and it's legion of fans down. I would think a person would feel a bit down about that situation.

This does not wash with Upton sitting with the Broncs for a signing photo shoot and allowing the caption signed and back home or some rot to be displayed.

That doesn't sit right with me, if I'm Upton i'm signing quietly with a club statement released, no signing photo and no fanfare.

And that first interview I'm saying I loved Newcastle and it's a shame circumstances forced me to leave. I wish them all the best, but now I am here and going to put my best foot forward for this club.

Upton can go jump. I'm calling BS on the whole thing, she wants to chase her legacy as a future immortal and can't see herself winning another premiership here, so she got herself out of here.

I've let it settle in a bit and my thoughts on Leo are: any team that signs him for around $900k isn't winning the comp. I'm really not fazed.

I don’t really like the go jump comment suicide is no joke. I lost my roommate to suicide

Everyone keeps telling me the NRL is a business and players don’t dog it in a situation like Leo’s.
Considered how Dom played in his last year here and nobody can deny he was terrific.
I wouldn’t expect anything less from Leo.
I am just so over the whole shambolic episode, so let’s just get on with 2025 and hope Leo can go out as good a winner as Dom did.

For those on this forum to remember, Fogarty kicked the life out of us at home here Round 1 2024. It was a master class!
