TLDRIDK, IMHO, IIRC… IDK.
Couldn’t agree more, much like Peter Sterling before him, I think they’d both have been up there as super insightful coaches - not even necessarily head coaches - if they’d gone down that route. It almost feels like a bit of a waste to spend it in the media, but they both had great playing careers, so I guess their legacy isn’t something they worry about.Moot point since he has chosen his pathway, but Matty Johns seems like he would be fantastic.
His pods with Cronk, where they analyse things and speak about the intricacies of playing in the halves is impressive. Type of stuff that would be really valuable for a half like Pezet - looking to take that next step in their career.
Seems like a genuinely likeable charismatic character too. Obviously we just see the glitz and glamour of him in the media and as a host, but people seem to genuinely like him, relate to him and in his deeper pods he can connect to people on a deeper level.
He would be a great consultant. Hell, if he had an interest, I think he’d be a pretty handy coach as well if he went down that pathway. Probably too late for him now to do anything but the celebrity NSW job.
He seems pretty content in his media roles and always refutes coaching approaches. Can’t see him doing any full on coaching. But I reckon he’d consider some low key involvement.
Kind of a shame our golden generation came through the late 90s and early 00s. Just before post football roles became more common. at least now clubs have a bit more money that can be used to keep people around the club.
