2024 Olympics

On a per capita basis, if America had the same population as Australia, they’d be sitting on a princely total of roughly 2 gold medals so far.
Don't get into the per capita thing without expecting a Kiwi to come wading into the convo, HVG! 😂

It was a national day of mourning here when Dominica got a gold.

And what a humble and natural person to go with it.
It is actually amazing to see our younger generation represented under this light...

Whilst you get to see the drive, determination and sacrifice that it takes to 'compete' at that elite level...it is also clear that the only 'competition going on' is the driving force to see themselves becoming the best version of themselves they can be as both an elite sports person but also as a humble group that are 100% genuinely invested in their international sporting family being that same best version of themselves that they can be too...even when it means they don't get the accolades and shiny prize.

It certainly gives me pause to acknowledge that many of this younger generation coming through sometimes get a bad wrap...but when you get to see them in this light on the world stage, there is plenty to be optimistic about as a society, if we can foster and model more of this behaviour in our world.

Kind of crazy how when I was 14, the generation of kids around that age seemed really smart and mature and like they actually knew better than all the grown ups, but now that I’m 36, almost every 14 year old seems like a stupid little baby with a bunch of funny ideas in their head.

Wow, 5! That’s pretty good! Did they finally make “coming up with dumb names for stuff” an Olympic sport, and one of those golds was for “chilly bin”?

I’ve long thought the generation after mine (I’m 43) is pretty much way superior in every way haha. Their intelligence around mental health, which was terrible when I was a kid, and the environment, which my generation has sadly managed to do next to nothing about, is far superior. They’ve cut back heaps on binge drinking and take much better care of themselves physically too. The sooner they get into the halls of power the better.

I’m drunk right now!

Getting down to the last bit then closing ceremony.
More medals last night, early morning our time been a great effort by our athletes, hopefully a few more medals to come

More medals, very impressive when look at the medal count and the teams/countries below us.
Anyone else’s thoughts on head to head competition as to seperate.
I enjoy the direct comp, for example 8 runners competing for medal as opposed to diving where it’s one competitor at a time.
My favourite event is track, especially the 400, 800 and 1500 men’s and ladies, also enjoy the cycling and am coming around to the newer sport of Skateboarding, it’s scary but exciting what they do.

Really hoping Lydia Ko can bring home the gold for NZ in the women’s golf tonight, she’s equal first going into the final round. She’s won a silver and a bronze at previous Olympics, so this would complete the set … and she has been through a lot in her career, it would be a great reward if she can get this!

Has golf really been in the Olympics for that long? I thought this was the first time now (not including any other potential inclusions many years ago before being dropped).

Really enjoyed the bouldering / lead climbing competition. I’m a climber myself and whilst it looks ‘easy’ on TV some of the holds they were hanging on to will have have been very difficult. Amazing grip strength and upper body power. Surprise win for GB, the 17 year old lad from Japan looked like he was going to take it, but came off the lead wall too early.

This is the third time, so Ko won medals the first two times they had it as well. 😊

And she's done it!!! A two shot win gives Lydia Ko the golf gold medal! 😍🥳🥲

Well worth staying up till 4am for! 😃

Arisa Trew is lovely, it is amazing for her to be able to perform at the highest level at just 14. She could have a long career winning gold medals. Her favourite event was not included in this olympics but will be included in the next.

And all she wants is a pet duck!
I was watching a news show this morning about Asian news and it was saying skateboarding is huge in Japan and went on to say Trew has become an instant mega star in Japan because she is half Japanese. It's funny that I didn't even see she was of asian heritage till I saw that, and now I can't unsee it. Asian heritage is becoming very normal now.
