2024 Olympics

Watched a French news bit on the swimming and the "expert" managed to talk about it without ever mentioning any australians. He even talked about the 400 metres womens and said it was a race between Ledeke from US and McIntyre from Canada

Typical of media etc we are finding the build up of expectation for gold a bit much, far too much pressure.
Already seen a huge failure, not so much loosing but by a big margin, Matilda’s 0-3, I’m trying to not get too carried away and just hoping for good competition by all athletes, swimmers etc.
Early days for a lot of the events with many heats and semis before the main events, am looking forward to seeing some great competitions

The NZ men's Rugby Sevens team managed to get knocked out before the Opening Ceremony, which was quite impressive haha.

Just now trying to watch the replay of the opening ceremony from last night (because getting up at 2:24am for it ... no thanks!).

My goodness this is painful to watch. All this Euro crap dance music, people dressed stupidly. Now there's a singer singing a John Lennon song, IE a British singer. I know Lady GaGa (an american) and Celine Dion (a Canadian) sing later on.

And this went for 4hrs?
Holy moley.

Was a great race and huge win for Titmus, and other Golds in Women’s relay and Bike time trial.
3 Gold all women, come on guys, couple Silver was good.
Taped it all through the night and up early to watch as if live.

I’ve got to say it wasn’t spoken about but the Aussie Mens Rugby Sevens squad got crucified by some very ordinary refereeing in both the Semi Final against Fiji and even worse against the South Africans in the Bronze medal play off!

At one point in the bronze medal game, the referee went back to a play 15 seconds earlier and ruled a knock on that was a clear loss by the South African player, when the scores were equal from memory….and then both the touchie and the ref let a pretty clear forward pass go about 15 seconds later.

The final score blew out but at that point Australia were in front, heading to a good overlap and the red card tackle hadn’t happened😡

Jesse Fox is truly a Champion, was brilliant and then the wait for all competitors to finish was agonising no doubt for her
Especially as the final kayaker Funk, was really flying as the last competitor and copped a 50 second penalty late in her run at gate 20 of 23...I still think she would have been slower than Jess's time, even with out the penalty but it certainly heightened the drama of what was already an epic finals shoot out

Caught the score as she, Funk, finished was 54.something seconds behind Jesse so likely missed the silver with that penalty
Yeah....it was pretty sad to see to be honest because she was definitely on a hot run and would definitely have been in podium contention until she hit the gate pole....and because her head didn't pass inside the pole at the contact point, it is a 50 second versus 2 second time penalty.

From my watching live, she was 0.89 seconds behind at the last comparative checkpoint, before she hit that gate and Jess absolutely flew through the from that checkpoint to the finish...even if you took the 50 second penalty off Funk, she was still around 3 seconds behind Jess's time and would only really have been in contention to knock the Brit out of the Bronze medal position.

Geez the Aussie sevens teams must have insulted the referee’s mothers this tournament…that refereeing against Australia/for Ireland was very bizarre…the one sided penalty counts and sin binning of players makes you wonder what is happening with the SP bookies and spot betting😳

I will say up front that the Aussie women were there own worst enemies in the sevens and didn’t deserve to win the game against Canada and good luck to them in the finals…but we did have the same referee (from England) who did give some very bizarre rulings in that game and he did at least 3 calls against Australia in this semi final that had all the commentators asking ‘how did he come up with that ruling?!

Let’s just hope he doesn’t turn up in the Bronze medal match for Australia?!
