2024 Membership thread

Anyone hitting fanfest tomorrow?

I've got some sucking up to do to Jack Hetherington. I went to watch the boys train with my daughter a couple of weeks back. She took this years cap to chase some autographs. I wasn't going to worry. Friz came over first and had a big chat, signed the daughters cap, and was so polite asking if I wanted mine signed that I let him. I got a couple more then decided I wouldn't bother the lads needlessly.

Unfortunately, Hetho and kpp came over next and Jack misunderstood me declining his autograph. Saying things like "only getting your favourites". As I was trying to explain, Braddy walked over. I couldn't help myself, asking for his autograph right in front of Jack. Added that he was one of my faves. Jack's eyes bored holes straight through me. I've been living in fear since. Tomorrow I plan to only ask for Jacks signature.
How did you go? Did jack have some time for you today?

I was in the last group that went through the change rooms and they let us take the player pictures and name plates.

I now have a giant Jacko 🤣

For my 30th my wife just brought the both of us a membership!! I live in Canberra and the first match we have tickets for is the 1st game of the year! I have never been to Mcdonald Jones and I can't explain how excited I am to finally get to go to game. I have supported the knights since I was about 6 and I never got the opportunity to go to a home game. I'm so freaking keen!!!!

Yes, and the story is so worth it. I spent most of the event lined up to see the old boys/changerooms. The daughter has lined up for one of the four signing marquees and then joined me. After the tour, we had time to line up for one more group. We both thought we heard Jack was in group 1 so lined up for that. We were actually last ones through that group as they began to stop people joining. I've then looked over at group 2 and Jack was sitting there. I told the daughter I was actually relieved.

So the daughter grabbed some signatures and the players in our group start moving away. Jack's group started moving about a minute later. I've got to say, Jack was still signing autographs and taking photos when most weren't. So the daughters in to me about getting Jack's and I'm chickening out. She grabs my hat and heads over. He's happily signing when he suddenly looks at her with that same look on his face he had when he was angry with me. I heard him say "he brushed me?", then he turns and starts scanning the crowd. He points at me and says "that guy". I'm like thanks so much for signing my hat! Suddenly he's right in front of me, I mean like right in my face but towering over me. "You're Braddies mate bruh?" he says. I was scared. But then he kinda smiles and wishes me a good weekend, and I thanked him again and off he went. I think we're sweet.

I dunno, I think the rivalry lives on!!! I hope this story continues throughout the year, it feels like the initial incident was the prologue and this was just the opening chapter. 😂

They don't put on extra trains, but they aren't needed - very few go by train for some reason. I usually do because I've got a seniors card so it costs a fraction of what i'd spend on petrol, but I think the kilometre or so walk to the ground puts off a lot of people.
A good tip for Sunday games is that the Newcastle farmers markets with many food trucks are on most Sundays near the station at the showgrounds, so you can time it to get something nice to eat before going to the game.

thought so i just thought maybe because they do for events in sydney
with the normal services are wait times much when u get to broadmeadow station after games

I remember back in the day when going to games in Newcastle from Sydney there weren't even any trains by the time the game finished (think these were Saturday night games). Crazy that the rail link isn't utilised and encouraged a bit more.

Not sure if they've put more signs up on where to go since then either, but I always seemed to end up getting lost and balancing my way across a massive pipe to get over a stream. 🤣

Depends on the game time - sometimes you need to rush to get a train or wait an hour or more - sometimes it works out well.

The best track now takes you right through the middle of the centre of excellence from McDonalds
Just had a look on google maps too and it looks like they've really improved that aspect.

Time I paid a visit again! Haven't been to a game there since 2014.
