You can’t play a guy who simply decides to not have a go half the time and doesn’t try to get his hands on the ball as your ball playing 13.

It’s either continue developing someone to fill that role and play Elliott in the meantime, or try and sign someone established and capable in that position.

I see him as a 5/8 not a halfback as he doesn't deal with the pressure for some reason. Yes if we had a better coach who could help him and simplify the noise in his head, he would be better but that is the problem

Just a thought, how would you see him as a ball playing lock? he has the size and his defence is good enough. Takes the pressure off him as well. Still doesn't solve our halves issues though

I reckon he's a 5/8 also and Clifford says he is a 5/8 too.

It would be interesting to see how we'd use him if he came back.
He played some second row for us, but didn't play like he did for Brisbane - he played second row like he was a prop.
Most of his time for us he was either at lock or prop.
Brisbane must have thought he has the build of a second row and had him playing there.
He was great at second row for Brisbane, especially in defence. He really has great instincts and broke down any attacking moves by wrapping up the ball.
We could really do with a safe defender on the edge.

Yeah I'd really enjoy watching him break down attacks a lot better then any of our current mob. I get a younger Guerra vibe from him with his defensive capabilities. Sometimes you just need to give some guys a go. Time to move on from the frizells of the world and try bring our own through. Jones is ok but he needs to bring his strengths to the team rather then play how the club want him too.
 
We’ve overpaid for a veteran edge forward who’s allegedly this dynamic attacker and defensive enforcer and doesn’t really hit the mark on either front, and have tried to make do with journeyman do-a-job types in the halves.

Way better off relying on journeyman do-a-job types like Hosking on the edge, and then overpaying the best half we can possibly get.

Whatsmore, that may or may not be the ideal strategy to build a premiership winning squad but it is almost definitely the best strategy to get us from where we are currently to where we want to be
 
From what's been reported seems it'll be:

6. Ponga
7. Brooks

Tbf that's potentially the best halves pairing we've had at the club for a long while, if both players perform anywhere close enough to their capacity.

Gamble was probably always going to be a backup half provided we can sign a fullback from elsewhere or promote one.
