2019 NSW Cup

Fulltime
Knights win 32-14

tries
  • Phoenix Crossland 22'
  • Phoenix Crossland 27'
  • Christopher Randall 36'
  • Phoenix Crossland 48'
  • Mitchell Andrews 65'
  • Tautau Moga 75'
Lino kicked 4/7.

Looking at the ladder, we should either stay 10th and jump to 9th if Newtown lose. Norths should drop from 3rd to 4th.

We only used 5 interchanges - all middle forwards - and Buhrer was replaced for HIA. Randall played 80 at hooker.

Interesting stats.
Sounds like our forwards dominated.
Oddly, the only forwards who didn't make 100 metres were Josh King and Sam Stone.
Buhrer - 157 metres - 40 tackles
Fermor - 154 metres - 20 tackles
J Saf - 141 metres - 18 tackles
Momoisea - 110 metres - 17 tackles
Saulo - 106 metres - 18 tackles
Hosking - 101 metres - 20 tackles
Josh King - 75 metres - 22 tackles
Sam Stone - 33 metres - 11 tackles

Chris Randall got the most fantasy points with 76, Buhrer 73 and Crossland 53.

Toohey says Brodie Jones and Brayden Musgrove will play for Cessnock today.
Not sure what to make of that.

My theory is that a lot of guys were given a chance to earn a contract in the last few months, and with the June 30 deadline coming up, a lot were cut loose this week.
No Gagai, Gibbs, Alifa, Thomas, Jones and Musgrove this week.
But we have kept Cooper, Randall, Momoisea and Andrews, and brought Hoy back in from under 20s.

Watched a bit of Cessnock v Scorps and Brodie Jones looked like he's carrying a leg injury - limped his way through long minutes though.
It was a bit weird watching Brodie Jones tackling Daniel Abraham - like a 20 year time warp.
Scorps nearly pinched the game after Musgrove got sin binned, but Cessnock came back and won 20-18.

Crossland looks pretty good runs well, kicks long.
Billy ..... how would you rate him say against Lamb and Mullen at same age, is he our 5/8 say in next year or two.

He's a much better athlete than Lamb - faster, bigger kick, very good step and running game.
Mullo was playing firstgrade at the same age, but I'd say the only thing he had over Crossland was that he was stronger and capable of defending against seniors, which Crossland isn't really at 18 years old.
Crossland and Lamb both have much better playmaking skills than Mullo had at the same age, but that was because Mullo had to just about teach himself in the days when our junior sides trained for a few hours a week with an unpaid coach, as opposed to all the quality skills coaching they get now.
