2018 halves combination

Watson should embrace the utility role.
He is in the 17, first picked, every week, if he can genuinely cover all the spine positions.
Kurt Gidley showed you can get picked for NSW and Australia if you can cover injuries to all the key positions - and any coach would love to have a plan B option if any key player went down.
As a utility he is solid gold.
As a 5/8 he was 3rd choice at the Roosters, and it's very debatable if he is 1st choice here.

The big issue is playing anywhere from 50 minutes to 10 minutes though. Players want to be on the field for 80 & have a big say.

I do have my concerns about our kicking game.

I'll be happy if we completely cease spreading the ball to out centre/winger to put kicks downfield.

I'm still happy we signed Watson, and he deserves his shot at it, but again, so does Lamb. May the best 5/8 win.

I do wonder though, if we signed Pearce to partner Lamb instead of Watson, would we have signed Watson still? Would Brown have promised him first shot at 5/8?

Why are we even debating Lamb vs Watson?
When we all know Cogger is the best trainer of the lot.
Surely Cogger starts in the 6?
Right, Billy? Lol

Think Brown would still have signed Watson for his utility value but with no promise of position.
That being the case we would have likely be talking Lamb at 6 with goal kicking and Watson on bench to cover spine and Griffin to reserves to only be called up if injury to Watson or Levi.

Errr one of the main reasons Watson signed with us was because he wanted to play in the halves.
He wasn’t going to sign just to be a utility at a wooden spoon club.

No Player embraces not starting .....

Of course Watson will start at 6. Billy you just have to accept this and move on.
I accept that Brown picks his sides on team politics rather than form.
He proved that by his unswerving loyalty to players like Wardle and Starling last year.
I would prefer it were otherwise.

I don't like to use Bennett as a good coaching example, but he drops any player and moves any player to another position he feels will benefit the game plan week by week. It's unthinkable that Bennett would guarantee a starting position to any player, let alone 19 year old NYC players with a handful of firstgrade games. Good coaches wouldn't do that.

I don't see the issues.

Lamb walks, Cogger is next in line.
Lamb stays, Watson kills it, Lamb walks, Cogger is next in line.
Watson Stinks, Lamb/Cogger is next inline.

People fall in love with players here I swear. Pearce is going to play same role as Thurston and Cronk and probably run the team and play whatever side he wants.

Bennett is the epitomy of selecting guys on politics. If he tries to keep a player at the club and they sign elsewhere they then find themselves in reserves the next week. Senile old fool is starting to get called out in the media and it's about time.

That would be fine if talented playmakers grew on trees around here, but if you find one, you really should try to keep him.
We'd be better to let someone like Dan Saifiti go than Lamb. Dan is a very good prospect, but props are a dime a dozen - if you have money you can buy them by the gross - but the reason all the clubs are in bidding wars for the available playmakers is because there are about 10 good ones for 16 positions in the NRL.

And Lamb isn't one of them just yet. Get over it and move on.

My point is we have Cogger, which from what I've heard you say is a cracking prospect as well. Pearce is here to stay. Cogger isn't going to get a better opportunity else where if Lamb leaves.

Lamb probably won't either. Manly is the only team looking for a half, which they are probably going to sign Hodkinson instead of Lamb as they have they're own prospects already.

If Lamb leaves We still have 2 good options to partner pearce.
