2018 halves combination

Really cant wait to see how Lamb and Watson go together although not expecting them to be great for the first 1/3 of the season... But 2 talented young guys and neither of them the old dominant one should help them feed off each other and should be very exciting ...

I agree with Lamb/Watson combination and also looking forward to it but if we did sign Pearce or any other top line half he would be replacing Hodko.
Could be Pearce and Watson in 1sts, Cogger and Lamb in res (old u/20 combo), and Hodko res bench with Pythian and Johns playing other positions. Plenty of first grade backup

I just hope if we do get a top line half, that Lamb doesn't get disheartened and leave for a shot at first grade elsewhere.

Agreed. If we get a half, and if that half takes Brock's starting spot round 1 2018, then I'll only be happy if Brock knows (and stays, knowing) that he is next in line.

From the current perspective and without hindsight the short-term upside of bringing in Pearce would be far outweighed by the long-term impact by losing Lamb.

Upsetting the momentum and confidence of a young team on the rise who are finally beginning to see the reward of hard work and tough lessons would be a real kick in the guts.

Honestly, another year together learning how to play together and developing combinations might see us still lose more games than we win, but the payoff could be massive.

Pearce would a stop-gap signing who would almost certainly move on after a couple of years. What then, chase a marquee half on top dollar? Giving Lamb (or another of the younger kids) control of this team for the next decade or longer is a smart decision.

NRL
Pearce
Watson

NSW Cup 1
Lamb
Cogger

Nsw cup 2
Hodko
Johns

Would be solid depth if we can get Pearce!! But do have the feeling Cogger will go else where.

I'd go Pearce Watson to because they have experience playing together at the chooks.

We'd have to offer almost double what a Sydney club does imo. Say if Manly can do $800k and we do $1m, don't think it happens.

As gus would say. NO NO NO NO NO!!!! Halves for 2018 should be 6. Watson 7. Lamb. Nothing else matters........... F Pearce f his experience. Loser goes missing in the games you NEED him.

Cronk to the Roosters upset the apple cart and more than likely cost them Pearce.

Pearce to the Knights would do the same and likely cost us Lamb, Watson or Levi.

Is it really worth it?

I doubt very much that Pearce will leave Roosters and if he does I also doubt very much that he will come to Newcastle, his biggest problem is finding a team where he feels he can fit in best to suit him and I believe he will want the number 7. He will no doubt like to stay in Sydney. Hope I am wrong as he would be a good signing but I hope we look after our present halves.

if brown gets his extension giving him 3 more years he has to get us in a position to win the comp in that time. Does pearce get us closer than sticking with lamb? Absolutely. how can anyone say stick with lamb and watch him develop, the top teams better their squad when the oppurtunity presents itself and im glad we are being proffesional enough to actually throw our hat in the ring.
like him or hate him pearce in his prime is what we should be aiming for and is 5x the player lamb is. lamb is contracted and can bide his time in reserve grade imo.

No it's not, not for mine.

Brown coming here was all about clearing the decks and putting his plan in to action. That plan was to nurture our local youth and bring in players to support them.

If we get Pearce, or Maloney etc, to me that would be the first real abandonment of that plan. Lamb appears to have a solid future, local junior, ticks the box for Browns plan.

We need to hold our nerve and not knee jerk react to a player hitting the market. We have our plan, stick to it.

Bit late for that mate. Browny drooling over the thought of Pearce.

Fate has helped us dodge duds like Jack Bird and Blair though...
