Watching the AUS vs NZ game got me thinking. It would be great to have some taller ctr/wings for our halves to kick too. I really hope we can get graham and skd cheap. I.e if Graham is on a million dollar contract at the dogs I hope we can get away with paying 3/4 of that 750k. Maybe wishful thinking. And skd after his cocaine stuff hopefully we could drop 100k off his contract because of that. I like gagai but I think we need to let him go of he starts asking $700k + to play centre.
I'm not a huge SKD fan but thought his latest issue might work in our favour too- and hes still pretty damaging with the ball.
He stuffed up, his price might go down and he'll come here with something to prove.i won't be shattered if we don't get him but it could work out for us.

From the Courier Mail

TITANS OPTION PLAY

THE Titans are watching Dane Gagai’s contract situation with interest. The Maroons ace is technically off-contract at Newcastle at season’s end, but has an option in his favour for the 2018 season.

Inside Mail can reveal that option is worth $600,000, a more than reasonable sum given Gagai’s outstanding form in a battling Knights outfit. But if Gagai chooses to explore the market, the Titans potentially have the funds to make a big-money play.

The club are awaiting an answer from Jarryd Hayne who, like Gagai, has an option in his favour for next season. If Hayne chooses to leave, the Titans will have the salary-cap space to go for Gagai.

It's strange that teams are reportedly throwing fullback-like money at Gagai when he's openly said that he doesn't enjoy playing fullback and wants to be a centre. He's been an above-average centre for most of his current contract with the occasional great game. Truth be told I don't think he's been worth the $575k that he reportedly signed for. That being said he's a player we can't afford to lose at the moment, we'd just become that much more undesirable for recruitment targets.

Not only does he have his wife and kid here, he's moved his parents, siblings and other relatives to Newcastle so it's safe to say he's settled here. Only way I think he'll leave is if another team's offer completely blows ours out of the water which I doubt Brown & Mooney will let happen.

Im sick of this fullback money the media dribble!

Is gagai a outstanding player with rep honors? Yes
Is gagai a great person on and off the field? Yes
Does gagai put bums on seats? Yes
A player is worth what the market tells him his worth.... no matter what number his got on.

The only place Gagai wants to be is here! He just feels that his stuck it out in a terrible team which has limited his own progress! So he feels his owed a little more $$ from us atm and imo thats fair enough.

Talking about gags..... I personally don't think his that great. One game here and there where he excels but other than that his a broken play player like J Roberts. Not a 600k worthy centre IMO.

Really disappointing...

It's nothing we didn't know already. All it says is Graham wants to stay at the Bulldogs, but would consider Newcastle if the Bulldogs are forced to move him on. The Dogs are always going to try to work some magic to keep him, if they do good on them, if they don't we'll be waiting. Hopefully now the Knights realize that & start signing up some other guys instead of waiting for something that may not eventuate.

We could have the best centres in the world on our team and they would look second rate with the actual second rate players around them on the field.

Toohey also reported we are looking for a hooker as randell wont be resigned and kostjasyn future not looking good.
We met with asiata a few weeks back also and have decided against chasing him.
All this is from tooheys column in the telegraph today.

He's playing in the worst team since at least the sixties, what's he meant to be doing out there?

So we're signing no one. Ace.

Toohey also said James Graham wanted to stay with the dogs, but implied that if he was forced out, Newcastle was his other option at this stage.

starting to get a little confused with the who recruitment scenario....

Weve struck out trying to sign superstars in foran, bird and a few other lesser names. But now we are pulling out of the race for mid range buys? Can someone please explain to me what Brown and Mooney are waiting for exactly? Kane evans would walk into a starting spot in our front row but we chose to not even consider him and Asiata would be a perfect bloke to wear the 14 jersey.
the longer we wait the more desperate we get.... which leads to us signing blokes for wayyyy overs then we already would be doing to get them here in the first place.
as desperate as we are getting we need to offer dugan 900k to come play for us, just for the fact that hes got star power and would attract others i.e his drinking buddy ferguson...
Its unlikely the dogs are releasing graham when they have others below him that they can get rid of like eastwood, Kasiano and tolman. Id take all 3

get something happening brown and mooney

Relax people... the roster will be very different next year (Brown's words)... wait and see how our recruitment / retention plays out. We're not even half way through 2017 and people are stressing.
