Lets be real with the situation at hand though mate, last year he inherited a team half full of blokes who weren't interested in the result and throughout the year he allowed them to leave. In the process giving debuts to about 12 or so blokes way before they were nearly ready. It made some of them and totally ruined a few. But a spoon last year was nothing but a certainty and everyone knew that. Also coming into last year we had no wiggle room in regards to mid season signings whereas this year we can possibly snare 3 quality players off their respective clubs before the deadline in June. Also throughout his first year brown picked out a diamond in the rough in mitch barnett who i believe has representative football in his future. So all in all he got a massive A+ for the year of 2016
This year so far on field he has turned us from whipping boys into a tough match up no matter our opposition. Hes landed us the best young talent in the game in kalyn ponga, aswell as switching a beat up worn down 500k winger for a tough hard working leader in buhrer. Weve been in the hunt for quality talent by the likes of finucane, scott and bird and most likely had scott if he didn't succumb to a torn acl and had us pull our offer. We haven't landed any big fish just yet but just being in the market to do so is something we haven't been able to do for a long long time. We are currently a healthy halfback away from being maybe 3 wins and 4 losses instead of 1 win and 6 losses. So far on 2017 brown gets another A+ for mine.
Everyone needs to realise the situation brown got himself into by accepting the job as our coach. Hes not dumb enough to ruin his coaching career by not explaining the process and what must be done to avoid the same rebuild happening in 3 years under a new coach. This process doesn't happen in 2 or 3 years it'll take plenty of time and i cannot see brown being sacked anytime in the near future. To be honest if i was the board id be organsing the bloke an extension. Because weve needed this done for quite some time!
I agree with most of this. I'm not saying I want Brown gone but if we can't land a quality half we're destined for absolute mediocrity for the next 18 months until we can boot Hodkinson.
If that happens and we get 3 spoons no way he gets extended.
Brown has done a good job getting rid of the deadwood and making astute signings like Barnett, Buhrer and Sio. He'll, even Elliot is starting to grow on me. But the fact is we went from 8 wins in 2015 to 1 win last year. I couldn't give him an A+ for last year, sure getting rid of the overpaid underperformers was right but he made plenty of mistakes with his team selections and letting Tapine go at the beginning of the year was wrong too. We had a poor and inexperienced squad last year but 1 win was pathetic and well below par even with the side we had.
Sadly we won't get many more this year even though the performances have greatly improved and Brown deserves a lot of credit particularly with the defensive improvements.
The good has outweighed the bad so far and I personally believe that he's been the right man for the job, but next year is make or break we need a quality playmaker or we're in serious trouble and football being the business it is means Brown won't survive if we don't start getting results.
I absolutely agree with what's being said about getting that 1 big star pick up will lead to several more quality signings but it's up in the air whether we can get the big one.
We deserve a successful side because of the amazing loyalty of our fan base and the town's passion for Rugby League, but the the way things work in the NRL favours certain sides and it'll be no easy task to become competitive. But hopefully Brown, Mooney and co are up to it.
