Rothfield reckons Foran will sign with us. He has a good relationship with Foran so it could mean something.

I'd also love this to happen, but there is a questionmark on his commitment to the game at the moment I guess.

But, we have to take a risk and he seems to be steady at the Warriors.

Hayne on the other hand returned to Rugby League and immediately destabilised the Titans. That is my concern with Hayne and why I say no to him, but yes to Foran, though both have had off field drama.

But, a long way to go yet before we get him signed. Another club could come in and steal the signing from under our noses no matter how good Browns BBQ is.

I'll celebrate when his signature is on our contract, and we are outside the cooling off period.

His brother was travelling from Woy Woy to play for Cessnock in 2016 and I think his mother lives there too.
Plenty of our guys travel from that way - Mamo did last year - Cogger still does I think - Pauli even travels from Sydney, but that hasn't worked out well for him.
Anyway, commuting from that way is doable.

Wtf are u on about num nutts?

For the 10th time now i agree hodko is a liability!!!!

All ive said is
1- its not ALL on him!
2 no half will fix this without decent forwards!
3 in my opinion the forwards win u or lose u games!!

So ill say it again, we can replace hodko with a million dollar half but without forwards laying the ground work it will be a big waste of money.

Im sorry u cant understand that forwards is where the game is won and lost.

Cheers .

P.S maybe go through the Ponga thread and see how long this argument has been going...
Ur not the first debate o the issue ive had champ.
I disagree majorly with your third point mate. Forwards get you into the position to make plays but its your spine that wins you games. Having a halfback who cannot kick is the main reason we cannot build any pressure whatsoever and it seems to be rubbing off on lamb. The kid was all class in the jnrs and controlled the game with his kicking game. What he dished up Friday was appalling

Buying Tamou and getting Cleary and Te Marie whatsisname were not exactly as the cheap as chips guys we have been signing over the last couple of years with the NRL dipping into the salary cap to get rid of our indebtedness. The Panthers would be spending a conservative $2 million a year more than us and aren't much better.
Did you miss our game against them? They surely seemed to be much better then us

Enough said really!
Without that ur halves are nothing yes?

Newcastle coach Nathan Brown meets with Kieran Foran after the Knights miss Jack Bird

THEY were beaten to the punch by Brisbane for the signature of Jack Bird.

But the Newcastle Knights aren’t about to give up the fight for a marquee signing to bolster the struggling club with Warriors playmaker Kieran Foran the latest star to emerge as a potential target.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal Foran met with Newcastle coach Nathan Brown on the Central Coast on Sunday, less than 24 hours after the Warriors took on the Raiders in Canberra, to talk about the possibility of the Kiwi international becoming a figurehead of the Knights’ rebuild in 2018.

Their meeting came just days after Warriors teammate Ben Matulino made a flying visit to Newcastle for a look around the city and preliminary discussions regarding his future.

Brown confirmed the Foran meeting when contacted on Monday but suggested he is none the wiser about his future plans.

“We met up on the Central Coast and had a chat but honestly, whether living in Newcastle is a genuine option for Kieran, I don’t know,” Brown said.

“Only time will answer that.”

The Knights certainly have the financial clout to land a big fish like Foran.

They are believed to be well under the salary cap this season and will have around a further $900,000 freed up next year with Jarrod Mullen facing a drugs ban.

Their offer to Bird was close to $1 million a season over three years and the club may even be prepared to go a little higher than that to try and secure Foran’s signature.

But ultimately, it may not come down to money with the likes of the Bulldogs and Wests Tigers other potential suitors.

The suggestion is family considerations will be paramount in whatever decision he makes with Foran looking at a move back to Sydney to be closer to his two children Emerson and Jordan, who live on the northern beaches with his former partner Rebecca Pope.

Whether living in Newcastle becomes a viable option from a family perspective with Foran’s mother residing on the Central Coast remains to be seen but the Knights want to give themselves every chance.

After snaring young Cowboys star Kayln Ponga, the club made overtures to both Cowboys prop Matt Scott and Melbourne Storm backrower Dale Finucane with both players deciding to remain at their current clubs.

They had a serious crack at Sharks prop Matt Prior only to see him re-sign with Cronulla before the Bird negotiations ended with the Origin star favouring a move to the Broncos.

They have expressed an interest in Canterbury prop James Graham should he be released from the final year of his contract by the Bulldogs.

Just heard on nrl360 part of foran getting equal custody of his children is that he moves back to Sydney. This all but rules us out of the race for his signature probably narrowing it down to the tigers or the doggies. For our sake i hope he goes to dogs as that would mean theyd most likely offload a few blokes preferably graham and maybe a guy like kasiano.
Also anyone reckon if chooks get teddy theyd consider letting latrell go? Could offer him good coin and hed be close to home

Doesnt rule us out completely as yet.

Look at it this way, 9 games of ours are in Sydney a yr! So he would be able to be at home those games!
He could live on the northen beach as i do and commute to training which is only a 80-90mins each way... i can tell u it takes 2hrs in the morning to get from my place to parramatta which was something he did already.

Im not banking on him coming infact i said as soon as the "story" popped up it wont happen ever.... though if we gave him a mil plus a car and then had BP as his tpa deal his travel is free lol

Read something in a news article that his kids live in Sydney, his ex lives on the Central coast. Not sure if the papers messed it up and meant his parents live on the coast.

I don't see why he can't live on the coast, and commute to Newcastle. It's not far at all. And close enough to Sydney. In fact the coast is often considered Sydney Metro region anyway.

As talented as the bloke is i don't think id want someone playing for us who lives over an hour away. Central coast that's fine but him living on the northern beaches means hes coming purely for the money. It gives him no chance to gel with his teammates in any other environment other then training or GameDay. I personally dont like that idea myself. I think if you're a marquee signing youre needed to promote the side and be involved in our community. He cannot do any of that from sydney. Family is always first and i 100% understand that but if he signs he needs to be based at the furthest the central coast
