Haha, Mr Smith! No need for that first name!

My birthday is the 9th of Feb, so this could be a good birthday trip next year!

Watched the Pacific games 9s on NITV yesterday and today.
A 15000 crowd both days.
Despite PNG being far too good for the other sides, the crowd loved every game.
The new stadium in PNG is fantastic, but only holds 15k all seated.
Mark Ella was commentating and said he'd love to see an Australian Indigenous side next games, and I imagine a Maori side too.
It isn't so far fetched because Australia and NZ have been competing in some sports.
Ella also said he'd love to see PNG Hunters games on NITV.

Do think this will eventually out dominate the Wellington 7's?

I think it already has, the Wellington 7s only had around 18,000 there each day this year. A couple of year ago, the 35,000 tickets would sell in a matter of minutes of even seconds!

They do have different atmospheres, the Sevens was all about alcohol and partying until the semis and final, where-as people are a bit more interested in the action throughout the day at the Nines, due to the quality of players there. The Sevens has in the last few years tried to take the emphasis off partying and alcohol, and that's pretty much killed the event.

Now tempted to take a week off and go earlier. Cricket NZ released their program last week for this summer. The Wednesday before tje Nines weekend there's a One Dayer at Eden Park

9s squad

I'm thinking Feeney is one of the first i'd pick.
He really showed he has a lot of pace in the NSW cup finals. He was always pretty quick, but i think he's taken it to a new level this year.

Next guy i'd pick would be Randell. He has the all round game needed in 9s. He is a good defender and has dummy half and playmaking skills.

Mullen would be our best 9s player, but i wouldn't rush him back for next year. They should time his training t give him as much rest as possible and be ready for round 1. Same with Hodko probably.

I'd go with a very young squad - Tuha, Holland, Fitzgibbon, Tapine, Korbin, Jacob Saifiti, the Mataútias, Mamo, Ross.

1. Jake Mamo
2. Nathan Ross
3. Dane Gagai
4. Sione Mata'utia
5. Chanel Mata'utia
6. Tyler Randell
7. Jaelen Feeney
8. Mickey Paea
9. Danny Levi
10. Korbin Sims (c)
11. Robbie Rochow
12. Joseph Tapine
13. Jeremy Smith
14. Kerrod Holland
15. Sam Mataora
16. Lachlan Fitzgibbon
17. Damian Sironen
18. Luke Yates

Picked guys who mostly would fit the style of the Nines comp, also leaving some key guys out for Round 1, while still keeping to the rules of picking a certain amount of top players probably.

Sironen would be good at 9s - very big and mobile and the best off loader at the club.

Nines pools to be revealed Wednesday

Tue 17 Nov, 2015, 7:20am
Staff writers, NRL.com

The four pools of the 2016 **** Smith NRL Auckland Nines will be revealed live on Wednesday morning.

The live draw event will begin at 10am New Zealand time (8am Australian daylight savings time) on Wednesday November 18, with the 16 NRL clubs to be split into four groups of four teams in Pool Hunua, Pool Waiheke, Pool Rangitoto and Pool Piha.

The draw will be conducted by Queensland State of Origin coach Mal Meninga and New Zealand actress Kylie Bax.

The tournament will run over two days on Saturday February 6 and Sunday February 7 at Eden Park, Auckland.

Each nine-a-side game is played over two nine-minute halves, with clubs naming a squad of 18 for the tournament.

A whopping $NZ2.6 million in prize money is up for grabs in the 2016 tournament.

After a round robin format in each pool, the top two teams will advance to the quarter-finals.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs will be defending their 2015 Auckland Nines title, having beaten the Cronulla Sharks in the 2015 final.

Issac Luke, who lifted the trophy as the Rabbitohs captain this year, could make his debut for his new club the Warriors in the tournament alongside fellow star signing Roger Tuivasa-Sheck.

Our pool is us, the Cowboys, the Tigers and the Panthers.

Pretty tough pool!

I might be consuming even more alcohol than I thought!
