2015 NRL Season: Judiciary and Match Review Committee

After just 3 minutes the Juduciary has downgraded Andrew Fifita's dangerous throw charge

He will miss just 2 weeks instead of the 4-6 he was looking at

He argued (successfully) that he helped "cradle Newcastle hooker Adam Clydsdale into a safe position"

Tyson Frizzell wasn't so lucky and copped 2 weeks plus 75 carry over points

the over rated smug knob caught a brake...just wish the judiciary seen how conserned fatfita was once he made the tackle (sarcasim), he seemed pretty happy that clysdale was hurt....hence Snowden

Titans second-rower Dave Taylor has been charged for his challenge on Penrith rookie Waqa Blake in Gold Coast's Round 7 win.

The Queensland representative won't miss any game time if he accepts an early plea for his grade one careless high tackle charge, which attracts a base penalty of 75 points.

Taylor was the only player cited by the NRL match review comittee after seven games in Round 7.

Matai cops one-match ban

Wed 29 Apr, 2015, 7:00pm

By AAP, NRL.com

Manly's Steve Matai has lost his bid to avoid a one-match ban for a grade one contrary conduct charge, and will miss the Sea Eagles' Round 9 clash with Newcastle.

The centre was sanctioned for making contact with referee Matt Cecchin during the Sea Eagles' win over Melbourne on Saturday.

The former Kiwi Test star also entered an early guilty plea for a separate charge, a grade one high tackle on Melbourne centre Will Chambers.

Cronulla forward Chris Heighington will miss three games after taking the early guilty plea for his dangerous throw in last week's NRL defeat to Penrith.

Panthers winger Dallin Watene-Zelezniak also accepted a one-game ban for a dangerous throw on Cronulla's Wade Graham, ruling him out of a Test debut for New Zealand on Friday.

Newcastle's Jeremy Smith (tripping), Sydney Roosters' forward Dylan Napa (careless high tackle) and Brisbane's Josh Maguire (careless high tackle) also entered early guilty pleas but won't miss any game time.

CAGED BIRD: Greg Bird to miss entire Origin series after failing to have dangerous throw charge downgraded

SMH Sport ‏@SMHsport 3m

BREAKING: Greg Bird has been rubbed out for 8 weeks after #NRL judiciary rejected his appeal for a downgrade on a dangerous throw charge

Probably a good thing, he's been a great Origin player for NSW but just like the test team, it's time to bring in some new forwards. And missing the entire series, he'll fall out of favour for the 2016 series most likely, like Gids after missing a few tests & origins.

Great news, the guy is a serial offender & a piece of sh*t to go with it. I get sick of seeing the average player get hammered by judiciary while high profile guys like him get more lives than a cat

Bird out for eight games

Wed 6th May, 07:15PM

Titans back-rower Greg Bird was tonight unsuccessful in having his dangerous throw charge downgraded.

This means he will miss eight NRL matches, not returning until round 19 against the Newcastle Knights.

It also puts Bird out for the entire State of Origin series.

Bird was charged with a grade two dangerous throw from his tackle in last Sunday's Test match on Kiwi winger Jason Nightingale.

Bird appeared before the NRL judicary panel this evening with Jim Hall as his legal representative and argued that should have been downgraded to a grade one. However the panel upheld the original charge.

Head coach Neil Henry, who accompanied Bird to Sydney for the hearing, said:

“We are obviously very disappointed at the outcome, we though we mounted a strong case for a downgrade from a grade 2 to grade 1, and had evidence to prove that but unfortunately that wasn’t the case with the judiciary.

"As a club we are very disappointed to lose the services of Greg for an extended period of time now but we accept we received a fair hearing in there.”

Greg Bird suspended: Blues and Titans enforcer joins NRL’s most suspended

  • AAP
  • MAY 07, 2015 12:12PM

GREG Bird has joined the undesirable ranks of the NRL’s most suspended players, after copping an eight-game ban at the judiciary.

The NSW and Gold Coast enforcer was suspended until mid-July for his lifting tackle on Kiwi winger Jason Nightingale in the Kangaroos’ Test loss on Sunday.

The ban means he will miss the entire State of Origin series. Bird pleaded guilty to a dangerous throw but went to the judiciary to challenge the grade two grading, which was upheld by the judiciary panel of Chris McKenna, Bronson Harrison and Mal Cochrane.

Since his NRL debut in 2002, Bird has now been outed for a total of 29 matches, making him the fourth most suspended player since the NRL was formed in 1998.

Bad boy John Hopoate holds the dubious honour of the NRL’s most suspended, with a massive 45 weeks, followed by Luke O’Donnell and Craig Smith with 32 weeks.

Danny Williams rounds out the top five with 28 weeks.

Steve Matai is another currently-serving player with a considerable judiciary record.

Currently suspended, the Manly star has earned a total of 23 weeks on the sideline.

Bird declined to comment after the hearing, leaving Titans coach Neil Henry to express his disappointment.

“Obviously we are very disappointed in the outcome,” Henry said.

“We thought we made a strong case for a downgrade — grade two to grade one- and we thought we had evidence to prove that.

“Unfortunately that wasn’t the case with the judiciary.

“As a club we are very disappointed to lose the services of Greg for an extended period of time.”

Bird is next eligible to play for the Titans in the round 19 fixture against Newcastle at Hunter Stadium.

Hurrell facing lengthy ban

Mon 11 May, 2015, 2:29pm

NRL.com

Konrad Hurrell is facing between three to four weeks on the sidelines after he was cited on Monday for a grade three dangerous contact charge by the NRL match review committee for his raised knee on Sharks forward Anthony Tupou in Round 9.

If Hurrell elects to challenge the grading and is unsuccessful, the Warriors centre will miss a month of action, while the early plea will see him sit out three weeks with no carryover points to be added.

Panthers forward Tyrone Peachy could be suspended for up to three weeks, cited for a grade two dangerous throw on Broncos prop Adam Blair in Penrith's loss to Brisbane on Friday night.

An early plea will see the young back-rower miss two games.

Also likely to sit out one week is Broncos front-rower and Queensland Origin hopefully Josh McGuire, with 51 carryover points and a non-similar offence in the last two years not helping his cause as he was slapped with a grade one dangerous throw by the MRC.

Sharks utility Sami Sauiluma will escape suspension if he elects to take to the early guilty plea for a grade one dangerous contact charge.

Snowden got 7 weeks for breaking Ray Thompson's nose, which could also seemed as "accidental" "fell into it" "awkward tackle" If Hurrell gets anything significantly less the judicary will continue its inconsistent strike rate.
