PNG HUNTERS v REDCLIFFE DOLPHINS

Kalabond Oval, Kokopo on Saturday, June 7 – 2.30pm
Referee: Peter Gough
Head to Head: PNG 1 Redcliffe 0
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #PNGvPHINS

Redcliffe coach Troy Lindsay has made two changes to the side that suffered a close loss to the Pride last Sunday at Dolphin Oval.

Caleb Hoffman and Tom Geraghty are the players that drop out of the 17, with Jared Cherry and new recruit Constantine Mika added for the tough trip to “The Graveyard”.

Mika, who joined the Dolphins last week on the recommendation of former North Queensland Cowboy Steve Southern, caught Lindsay's eye in Sunday's FOGS Cup match.

Sitting in eighth spot on the ladder, this is a crucial game for a Dolphins team which went down to PNG 24-18 in their round 1 fixture at Redcliffe in March.

Hunters coach Michael Marum will need to reshuffle his team following the suspensions of Timothy Lomai and Dion Aiye for dangerous throws.

Aiye will miss two matches due to carry over points from a charge earlier in the season while Lomai will be available for the Hunters’ next match against Mackay.

The Hunters have won five of their six homes matches and will start as favourite, despite the loss of two key forwards.

Ben ‘Dobbo’ Dobbin (Triple M) says:

Garry Lo scored four meat pies at the fortress last weekend to send the Magpies home with their wings damaged.

The Hunters have recorded two strong wins in a row and this weekend should get a third.

Redcliffe have endured a tough season and last weekend’s two point loss really hurt.

IPSWICH JETS v BURLEIGH BEARS

North Ipswich Reserve on Saturday, June 7 - 3pm
Referee: Chris Anderson
Head to Head: Burleigh 18 Ipswich 14 Drawn 2
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #JETSvBEARS
Live call: www.phoenixradio.com.au

Ipswich Jets fullback Javarn White plays his 100[SUP]th[/SUP] game in the Intrust Super Cup on Saturday.
The livewire No. 1 scored a slashing long range try against Wynnum Manly last weekend and is approaching the form that saw him claim the Courier-Mail Medal with the Norths Devils in 2011.

Ipswich enters this match with injury clouds hovering over some key personnel, including skipper Keiron Lander and Marmin Barba.

It shapes as a testing afternoon for the Jets, who will meet a Burleigh team on the up following their gritty 24-22 victory over the Norths Devils last weekend.

The Bears led by 12 points at half-time and scrambled well late in the second half to fend off the Devils’ charge.

Fullback Henare Wells and hooker Nafe Seluini were electric last week and again loom as the trump cards for Bears coach Jimmy Lenihan.

In the first meeting of the two clubs earlier this year, the Bears produced a barnstorming finish to beat the Jets 36-28.

‘Dobbo’ says:

The Jets weren’t too disappointed last weekend, as Wynnum played really well at home.

Burleigh, under new coach “Disco Jimmy”, are improving every week and have a fantastic side full of NRL talent.

Watch out for Anthony Don (DON is good).

He is a fantastic finisher and can find the line.

This is going to be a great game.

SUNSHINE COAST FALCONS v NORTHERN PRIDE

Stockland Stadium on Saturday, June 7 - 6pm
Referee: Robert Gallacher
Head to Head: Sunshine Coast 6 Pride 6
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #SCFvPRIDE

Northern Pride halfback Sam Obst has been cleared to play in tomorrow night’s match against the Sunshine Coast after being found not guilty of striking last night.

Obst was charged following a second half incident in his team’s two-point win over Redcliffe last weekend.

But the former Dolphin was exonerated by the judiciary panel and will now be available for the Stockland Stadium clash.

Obst has been instrumental in the Pride’s surge to the top of the Intrust Super Cup table.

The Pride has won six of their past seven games against the Sunshine Coast; and were comfortable 36-0 winners over the Falcons in round 1 this year.

Pride co-captain Brett Anderson is a nursing a hamstring strain and will be rested from the round 15 match.

For the Falcons, back-rower Jaz Nahu-Main plays his 50[SUP]th[/SUP] game for the Sunshine Coast.

It is also a milestone match for referee Robert Gallacher, who will control his 100[SUP]th[/SUP] game in Intrust Super Cup.

‘Dobbo’ says:

This could be anything … top v bottom. It’s going to be a tough game for the Sunshine Coast, but the Falcons are really putting in each week.

Ben Spina is a fantastic leader for the Pride and he will again be pressing for Queensland Residents selection.

Northern Pride by 16.

WYNNUM MANLY SEAGULLS v MACKAY CUTTERS

BMD Kougari Oval on Saturday, June 7 – 6.30pm
Referee: Jarrod Cole
Head to Head: Wynnum 7 Mackay 6
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #WYNvMC

The Wynnum Manly Seagulls have a perfect seven from seven record at home at BMD Kougari Oval this year – a run of success they added to last weekend with their tight 26-20 victory over the Ipswich Jets.

Their opponents this weekend the Mackay Cutters have struggled on the road so far this season and have only won one away game in seven attempts – a 34-28 win over the Central Queensland Capras in round 9.

This weekend however, they will be buoyed by the fact they defeated the Seagulls in their match in Mackay in round 4 earlier this year, coming out on top with a close 12-4 result.

Wynnum Manly coach Jon Buchanan has been able to name an unchanged side, with the only adjustment to last week’s winning side seeing Jon Grieve starting with Graham Clark to the bench.

For the Cutters – skipper Tyson Martin and forward Aleki Falepaini have both been sidelined by injuries.

Outside back Liam Taylor has been named captain in his absence, while Niko Mataia and Josh Osborne will both come into the side for the injured players.

‘Dobbo’ says:

You’ve got to go with the Wynnum Manly Seagulls at home, especially with Jake Granville in such ominous form.

The Gulls haven’t lost at home this year and it’s hard to see an inconsistent Mackay team getting over them here.

CQ CAPRAS v EASTS TIGERS

Browne Park on Sunday, June 8 – 2.10pm* (Live on Channel 9/WIN/NBN)
Referee: Tim Rutherford
Head to Head: Easts 24 Central 9 Drawn 1
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #CQCvTIGES

The Channel 9 cameras will head to Central Queensland this Sunday when the Capras host the improving Tigers.

It will be a big game for the home skipper Gavin Hiscox who will play his 50[SUP]th[/SUP] Cup match – all for the CQ side.

Interestingly, both teams have struggled to win at Browne Park of late, with the Capras losing all five of their matches here this year – while the Tigers have had a longer drought and have not won at the ground since 2010.

Rested from the bye – Capras coach Jason Hetherington has made two adjustments to his team, with Ha’ofanga Rabakewa coming in for Hughie Stanley and Mitchell Zornig returning from injury to replace Liam Pickersgill in the back row.

Easts will see the welcome return of Cody Walker, while Maeli Seve is the other new face on the wing.

Jacob Fauid – who made his return to the competition last weekend – and Shane Neumann have not been named.

While former Capras skipper Tim Glasby is set to take on his old side – the home fans will miss out on seeing another former player in Cameron Munster, with the fullback named in the Storm side to take on the Roosters.

‘Dobbo’ says:

The Tigers will recognise this as a bogey game. CQ will be tough at home but the Tigers are starting to get on a roll.

I’m happy for Tigers playmaker Cody Walker, who is off to the Bunnies next year; and it’s also great to see hard-man Mitch Garbutt playing well for the Storm.

Can CQ win?

Of course they can … look out they are coming after some Tigers.

CQ Capras by 6.

NORTHS DEVILS v TWEED HEADS SEAGULLS

Bishop Park on Sunday, June 8 - 3pm
Referee: Michael Gordon
Head to Head: Norths 13 Tweed 8 Drawn 1
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #DEVILSvTHS

The Devils will enter this game keen to wrest back their spot in the top five they relinquished to Tweed last weekend after suffering a two-point loss to Burleigh.

Their high error rate cost them dearly; while the Gulls’ win over the Falcons was their sixth success in a row.

The victory also featured a strong return from injury by their co-captain James Wood who scored a try, making him the eighth player in Cup history to score 90 tries.

While Tweed have been good on the road, winning four of their past five away games; the Devils have the stats on their side for this game, and have won the past four games between the sides, as well as four of their five home games this year.

In team changes, BJ Munns comes in for Kainga Turner at centre, while Dean Sheppard comes on to the bench for Francis Molo in the Norths line-up.

For Tweed, Kalifa Faifai Loa and Beau Henry return to the side from the Titans, with Ben Ridge and James Roberts (18[SUP]th[/SUP] man) being named for the Gold Coast.

This match will also mark the 100[SUP]th[/SUP] Cup game for Devils skipper Brendon Gibb, who has previously played for Central Queensland.

‘Dobbo’ says:

Look out Norths, the Tweed are on a roll.

The Seagulls are the quiet achievers of the Intrust Super Cup.

Norths had a tough loss to Burleigh and need to get back to winning form or their top five prospects could be in jeopardy. This will be a great game … I’m on the Tweed bandwagon.

Intrust Super Cup Preview: Round 16

Fri 13th June, 11:29AM

MACKAY CUTTERS v PNG HUNTERS

Stadium Mackay on Saturday, June 14 – 6pm
Referee: Chris Butler
Head to Head: PNG 1 Mackay 0
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #MCvPNG

Both the Hunters and the Cutters staged great comebacks last weekend – overcoming halftime deficits to go on and claim last-gasp wins.

The Hunters maintained their strong home record at “The Graveyard”, stunning Redcliffe to win 43-36.

The Dolphins lead 18-0 at halftime before PNG began their revival. Mackay too were down at the break, trailing 16-6; but rallied in the second half, scoring two tries while keeping Wynnum Manly scoreless.

In team news, Timothy Lomai returns from suspension for the Hunters with Tiger Emere moving to an 18-man bench.

Adex Wera returns at fullback, replacing Albert Patak.

For the Cutters, Rohan Ahern is in for Ross Bella (who will play for the Queensland Under 18 side on Wednesday), with Niko Mataia named along with Dave Petersen, Ryan Kinlyside and Andy Gay on an extended bench.

Stand-in skipper Liam Taylor, who kicked the winning conversion last weekend, requires only two more tries to equal the club record of 31, currently held by Bureta Faraimo.

PNG’s Noel Zemming too is close to writing a first draft of history for his club – and requires two more points to become the first Hunter to score 100 points.

Ben ‘Dobbo’ Dobbin (Triple M) says:

The Hunters are flying, sitting in second place on the Intrust Super Cup ladder.

Many a good judge have felt the Hunters’ bubble would burst, but it’s just getting bigger.

They are the real deal and will give the title a real shake.

The come-from-behind win against Redcliffe last Saturday – with injuries and suspension plaguing them – displayed their enormous class.

PNG Hunters by 8.

SOUTHS LOGAN MAGPIES v CQ CAPRAS

Marley Brown Oval on Saturday, June 14 - 7pm
Referee: Nick Morel
Head to Head: Souths Logan 17 Central 17 Drawn 2
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #SLMvCQC

The Intrust Super Cup will head to Gladstone on Saturday night. The Magpies seem to enjoy the country air, winning their past three games at Marley Brown Oval.

Although the head-to-head record currently cannot be split, the out-of-towners also enjoy a strong recent record over the Capras, taking home the win in nine of their past 10 games.

The Capras started well against the Tigers last weekend, only to be blown away in the second half and will look to tighten their defence against a Magpies team fresh from the bye.

Having lost in their trip to PNG, the Magpies will see the return of skipper Phil Dennis, Jordan Rapana, Leon Panapa and Raiders youngster Luke Bateman to the side.

Dallas Anderson, Jack Ahearn, Zac Lemberg and Darcy Wright have not been named. For CQ, Yeppoon prop Joel Marama is set to make his Cup debut after being named on the bench for John Clayton (hamstring strain).

Hayden Buckman returns to the line-up at centre after playing in the QRL A Grade Divisional Carnival last weekend and will take the place of the injured Marco Delapena.

Tyson White from Gladstone makes up an 18th man bench.

‘Dobbo’ says:

Souths Logan and Central Queensland need this win, with both teams having been on the wrong side of the scoreboard in the last month.

Central Queensland will be without their head coach Jason Hetherington, who is on Origin duty.

This is do-or-die for both teams.

EASTS TIGERS v NORTHERN PRIDE

Langlands Park on Sunday, June 15 – 2.10pm* (Live on Channel 9/WIN/NBN)
Referee: Peter Gough
Head to Head: Pride 9 Easts 4
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #TIGESvPRIDE
Audio: http://tigertv.net/ (audio only)

The Pride survived a massive scare last weekend – with a last minute field goal from Sam Obst securing a 15-14 win for the ladder leaders over the Sunshine Coast.

While the Falcons played out of their skins to push them right up to the siren – the Pride should be prepared for a similarly determined challenge from their rivals this weekend.

The Tigers had difficulty early on against the Capras, before finding their stride in the second half to record a 34-4 win.

The victory also pushed them back into the top five for the first time since Round 4.

While the Pride have a healthy record over the Tigers, Easts have only lost one game at home this year and have also won five games in a row – building key momentum.

In team news, Easts will be without Cameron Munster and Tim Glasby who are in the Melbourne Storm’s 17; while Hymel Hunt and last week’s XXXX man of the match Felise Kaufusi are on an extended bench.

The players to come in are Eddie Tautali at fullback, young Storm winger Dane Chang, Troy Giess and Foisa Peni.

For the Pride, Alex Starmer returns to the side with Ricky Thorby not named.

‘Dobbo’ says:

The Tigers are coming! Donald Malone has been outstanding and the Tigers need a big scalp if they are to be considered a title threat.

This will be a tough game with the Pride doing just enough to win at the moment.

Watch out for them come the back end of the season.

Veteran halfback Sam Obst is in vintage form and looks capable of playing at NRL level again.

TWEED HEADS SEAGULLS v IPSWICH JETS

Piggabeen Sports on Sunday, June 15 – 2pm
Referee: Brett Suttor
Head to Head: Tweed 17 Ipswich 7
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #THSvJETS

Tweed Heads prop Damian Sironen will miss two matches after being found guilty of a Grade 2 dangerous throw at last night’s judiciary.

But the news was better for teammate Cory Blair earlier in the week, with the tough Tweed back-rower avoiding a one-match ban after entering an early plea to dangerous contact.

Blair will now line up for his 50[SUP]th[/SUP] game for the Seagulls, who host the Ipswich Jets at Piggabeen on Sunday.

Ipswich is coming off a dreadful loss 50-12 loss to the Burleigh Bears.

In an uncharacteristic performance, the Jets were blown away by the Bears who led 32-0 at half-time.

It turned out to be Ipswich's biggest home loss since 1998, their biggest loss to Burleigh, their equal biggest loss under the Walkers and the first time 50 points have been scored against a team coached by Ben and Shane.

In contrast, Tweed is riding is a wave of success entering the round 16 clash, having won their past seven games to emerge as a genuine title threat.

The Seagulls have also never been beaten by an Ipswich side in 12 matches south of the border, with the Jets having lost nine games at Piggabeen and three at Ned Byrne Oval.

‘Dobbo’ says:

Aaron Zimmerle has done a fantastic job with the Seagulls who are on a massive winning streak.

Currently in third place, they take on the Jets who are sitting in fourth.

The Jets have lost three out of four games in the last month but don’t be fooled, they will have captain Keiron Lander back and they know this game is crucial in the title race.

It’s too close to call – a 12-12 draw.

BURLEIGH BEARS v SUNSHINE COAST FALCONS

Pizzey Park on Sunday, June 15 - 2pm
Referee: Liam Kennedy
Head to Head: Burleigh 8 Sunshine Coast 3
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #BEARSvSCF

The Burleigh Bears were super impressive in last weekend’s demolition of the Ipswich Jets.

While speedsters Anthony Don and Henare Wells stole the limelight with five tries between them, Bears hooker Nafe Seluini was equally destructive with his work out of dummy half.

But in a blow for the Bears, the livewire former NZ Warriors young gun sought treatment on an injured shoulder immediately after the match and has been ruled out of this weekend’s clash against the Sunshine Coast Falcons at Pizzey Park.

Former Eel Matt Keating is also out with a back injury, meaning Matt Beddow will slot into the No. 9 jersey.

Burleigh is close enough to the top five to challenge for a finals berth in the back half of the season, but can ill-afford to slip up against teams they’re expected to beat.

The Sunshine Coast fall into this category after enduring a tough season to date.

However, the signs are good for the Falcons who came tantalisingly close to claiming the high-profile scalp of the Northern Pride last weekend.

‘Dobbo’ says:

“Disco” Jimmy Lenihan has the Bears finally believing in their ability and aren’t they starting to shine.

Fifty points on the Jets showed there is plenty to like about their attack.

Ryley Jacks was outstanding last week along with the flying winger Anthony Don.

The Sunny Coast showed plenty of courage going down by a point to the Pride, but it will be hard to keep the pressure on Burleigh as they attack from everywhere.

NORTHS DEVILS v WYNNUM MANLY SEAGULLS

Bishop Park on Sunday, June 15 - 3pm
Referee: Michael Wise
Head to Head: Wynnum 18 Norths 17 Drawn 2
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #DEVILSvWYN

Queensland Residents selectors will keep a keen eye on this game with a number of players from both teams in contention for the representative selection.

There are some enthralling match ups right across the park, including the hooking duel between Jake Granville (Seagulls) and Krys Freeman (Devils).

Both teams sit on 18 points with the winner a chance of climbing back into the top five by the completion of the round.

Wynnum Manly’s 18-16 loss to the Mackay Cutters last weekend saw them slip out of the top five for the first time since round 4.

The Seagulls have won their past seven games against Norths, but their record away from BMD Kougari Oval this year doesn’t make for pretty reading.

Heading into the Bishop Park clash, the Gulls’ have just one win to show from six matches on the road.

After being soundly beaten by Tweed last weekend, the Devils will look to atone in front of their home fans with Freeman and skipper Brendon Gibb to provide the direction in the middle of the park.

‘Dobbo’ says:

Jordan Kahu is starting to dominate which is a great sign for Wynnum Manly and for the Brisbane Broncos.

Norths have got a little off track and need some starch back in their defence.

Hard to pick, but perhaps Norths because they are desperate at home.

PNG HUNTERS v EASTS TIGERS

Kalabond Oval, Kokopo on Saturday, June 21 – 2.30pm
Referee: Michael Gordon
Head to Head: PNG 0 Easts 0 Drawn 1
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #PNGvTIGES

The last time these two sides met, the game ended in a thrilling draw – and both sides will do well to produce a similarly entertaining game this week.

Both clubs are coming off losses – with the Hunters going down to the Cutters in Mackay and Easts suffering a 44-20 loss against the Northern Pride.

The Tigers were on the back foot from the get-go – only getting on the scoreboard late in the game when the result was beyond doubt.

The Hunters too were below their best form – although early injuries also made it difficult for them to lift against a Mackay side who were playing for their season.

In team changes, the PNG Hunters will see Dion Aiye on the bench with Sebastian Pandia not named.

The Tigers haven’t had the best preparation for such an important match, with uncertainty surrounding their final 17 due to the unavailability of their Melbourne Storm players, including Cameron Munster and Hymel Hunt.

Both players were named but it is understood the talented pair will now stay behind in Melbourne.

Ben ‘Dobbo’ Dobbin (Triple M) says:

This is an important game for the Tigers if they want to force their way back into the top five.

Beaten last weekend by the Pride at home, this is a make or break road trip for the Tigers in PNG.

Easts to win in an upset by 6.

NORTHERN PRIDE v CQ CAPRAS

Barlow Park on Saturday, June 21 – 5.30pm
Referee: Nick Morel
Head to Head: Pride 9 Central 5
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #PRIDEvCQC

A spirited second-half comeback by the Capras was not enough to overcome Souths Logan in Gladstone last weekend; and they will need to summon all of that spirit again as they take on one of the toughest tasks in the competition – the Northern Pride in Cairns.

There have been five changes made to their line-up, with injury – and the retirement of playmaker Brent Crisp – seeing a major reshuffle.

John Clayton replaces an injured Mitch Zornig, with skipper Gavin Hiscox to join him in the back row.

Liam Pickersgill (medial ligament), Arlin Paki and Ha’ofanga Rabakewa are the other omissions, with Sam Madden, Tyson White and Tom McKenzie the new faces.

Already highly regarded, the Pride went to another level last weekend with their comprehensive 44-20 win over the in-form Easts Tigers.

This week, XXXX man of the match Robert Lui has been called up to the Cowboys bench, with Ricky Thorby not named, with Ryan Ghietti and Semi Tadulala to re-join the team.

Five-eighth Shaun Nona booted six goals in last week’s win, and now requires two goals to bring up 100 in the Cup.

‘Dobbo’ says:

The Pride’s first 60 minutes last week was close to perfect rugby league.

Jason Demetriou would not have been happy with the late tries that the Tigers scored but the Pride are clear cut favourites for this year’s Intrust Super Cup.

CQ are always tough but the competition leaders should make light work of it all.

Northern Pride by 16.

SUNSHINE COAST FALCONS v WYNNUM MANLY SEAGULLS

Stockland Stadium on Saturday, June 21 - 6pm
Referee: Robert Gallacher
Head to Head: Wynnum 9 Sunshine Coast 2
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #SCFvWYN
Preview from 4pm: http://www.spreaker.com/show/intrust-super-cup-inquisition
Call: http://www.spreaker.com/user/wynnumseagulls2014

Despite contrasting results last weekend; both sides will field unchanged line-ups for this Saturday night match-up.

After producing a stirring performance in round 15 to go within one point of producing the upset of the year; last week the Falcons were unable to contain the point-scoring prowess of the Burleigh Bears, going down 60-6.

The Seagulls however went on a scoring binge of their own against the Devils, and their 52-12 win was the first time Wynnum have scored in excess of 50 points away from home in more than 10 years.

Matt Seamark kicked eight goals in the victory and now only needs six more points to bring up 100 for the season.

When he does, it will be his sixth season in succession where he has scored 100 points or more.

The last time the teams met – the Seagulls were too good for the Sunshine Coast posting a 36-0 win, but the Falcons can be expected to put up a big fight at home.

Falcons lock Tom Murphy will play in his 50th Cup game, having played with Redcliffe in the past.

‘Dobbo’ says:

Sunny Coast are not on their own at getting beaten by large scores this season.

Almost every team has had a turn. Wynnum will look to do a job on the Sunny Coast and cement a top five spot.

Jordan Kahu’s form is slowly improving and he is knocking on the door of selection at NRL level again.

Wynnum Manly Seagulls by 12.

TWEED HEADS SEAGULLS v BURLEIGH BEARS

Piggabeen Sports on Sunday, June 22 – 2pm
Referee: Clayton Sharpe
Head to Head: Tweed 12 Burleigh 11
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #THSvBEARS

A team on an eight-game winning streak in Tweed Heads will come face-to-face with a team in Burleigh that has scored 134 points in their past three wins.

Add into the mix the fact it is a local derby – and you have all the ingredients for a classic.

However, much was also expected of their XXXX Rivalry Round match earlier this year – but that time, the Seagulls were dominant, posting a 28-0 win.

Given the good form the Bears have found in recent weeks; it’s unlikely this will be repeated.

Burleigh have made one change to the side that undid the Sunshine Coast 60-6 (a score that included a club record six-try haul to fullback Henare Wells) last weekend, with Dimitri Pelo in to the centres for Jamie Anderson.

Matt Beddow came off with a leg injury early in last week’s game, but has been named at hooker.

For the Seagulls, their one change sees Chris Piper in for Ryan James.

Fittingly for a derby, the head-to-head record is quite even, however, Tweed have won six of the past seven games between these two sides.

‘Dobbo’ says:

Match of the round for me.

Tweed were a touch lucky to win against the Jets while Burleigh ran up a cricket score.

Battle of the south coast and sure to be as good as it gets.

The Tweed have been the surprise packet of the year while the Bears have made a climb up the ladder under “Disco” Jimmy Lenihan.

There are huge raps on the Burleigh five-eighth Conner Toia who has put plenty of structure and shape into the backline.

SOUTHS LOGAN MAGPIES v REDCLIFFE DOLPHINS* (Live on Channel 9/WIN/NBN)

Davies Park on Sunday, June 22 - 2pm
Referee: Chris Anderson
Head to Head: Redcliffe 27 Souths-Logan 8 Drawn 1
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #SLMvPHINS

Souths Logan return home after three weeks away (plus a bye) to host a team they have traditionally struggled against, the Dolphins.

The Magpies held on last weekend to snap a two-game losing streak with a 30-22 win over the Capras; and will be looking to halt a six-game losing record against Redcliffe.

In their last game, the Dolphins were on track to become the second team to record a win over PNG in Kokopo, only to be thwarted by a remarkable comeback.

Rested from the bye, they have a number of players returning this weekend, with co-captain Marty Hatfield in at centre for Nick Ritter, and Jake Marketo to return following a lengthy suspension.

In developing news, Petero Civoniceva is poised to come into the forwards for Bronco Dave Hala.

Caleb Hoffmann will come in at lock, with Joe Bradley and James Ackerman the players to be omitted.

The Magpies have made two changes, with Sam Mataora returning via the bench in place of Zac Lemberg, while Darcy Wright will start.

Shane Duck drops to an extended bench.

‘Dobbo’ says:

A cracking Channel 9 game featuring the battle of the first year coaches. Both sides have had up and down seasons and are really looking to find some consistent form.

The “Love Rat” has retired after pulling a heart muscle so Souths are a real chance.

Redcliffe on the road are a chance.

Souths Logan Magpies by 4.

NORTHS DEVILS v IPSWICH JETS

Bishop Park on Sunday, June 22 - 3pm
Referee: Adam Devcich
Head to Head: Norths 23 Ipswich 11 Drawn 2
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #DEVILSvJETS
Livestream: Tiger TV (Yes that is right, Tiger TV will call this match while their boys are in PNG!)
Audio: TigerOnAir

The top of the Intrust Super Cup ladder is a congested place – and recent losses have seen Norths drop out of the top five and Ipswich clinging to fifth.

Both have lost three games in a row – and in the past two weeks – both teams (Ipswich in round 15 and Norths in round 16) have also conceded 50 points.

This match will be viewed as a good opportunity to reclaim their impressive early season form.

In a boost for the Jets, skipper Keiron Lander has been named at lock, while Josh Seage has also been included to start.

Last week’s debutant Ben White and Billy McConnachie will both make way if everyone is fit.

For the Devils, Sam Foster will start at halfback in the place of youngster Kalolo Saitaua, with BJ Munns in for Kainga Turner. Dean Sheppard comes onto the bench.

While Norths are undefeated in the previous five games between these two sides (four wins and a draw) – they have not enjoyed their time at home so much this season, and have lost three of their past four games at Bishop Park.

‘Dobbo’ says:

Nothing more to say other than Ipswich Jets by 6.

CQ CAPRAS v BURLEIGH BEARS

Browne Park on Saturday, June 28 – 4pm
Referee: Tim Rutherford
Head to Head: Burleigh 29 Central 6
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #CQCvBEARS

Despite a bruising 16-16 draw with Tweed Heads last week, Burleigh Bears will be the popular choice amongst tipsters.

The Bears won three in a row before last week’s draw at Piggabeen, a form line that suggests they will be hard to topple in Rockhampton tomorrow night.

Under new coach Jim Lenihan, the Bears are launching a strong charge for a semi-final berth.

The Capras will look to play a spoiling role and their recent home record against Burleigh suggests they could be more than a nuisance in this Round 18 clash.

Central has won three of their past four games against Burleigh at Browne Park.

However, Jason Hetherington’s team has endured a spate of bad luck in recent weeks, with a heavy injury toll testing the club’s depth.

Three of their best attacking players – Brent Crisp (now retired), Marlon Doak and Marco Delapeno – are among those on the sidelines.

Hetherington will now go with the new halves pairing of Ian Webster and Shannon Rupapere this weekend.

Burleigh haven’t named injured stars Matt Keating and Nafe Seluini, but there is still plenty of strike power throughout their line-up which includes the competition’s leading try scorer (Henare Wells) and points scorer (Khan Ahwang).

Ben ‘Dobbo’ Dobbin (Triple M) says:

Burleigh and Tweed had a draw last week and some believe it was a preview to the grand final.

CQ have had a real go this year but injuries and a lack of depth has taken a toll.

“Disco” Jimmy has really turned the Bears around since taking over the reins mid-season and they will keep on winning.

SUNSHINE COAST FALCONS v IPSWICH JETS

Stockland Stadium on Saturday, June 28 – 6pm
Referee: Rob Gallacher
Head to Head: Ipswich 7 Sunshine Coast 3 Drawn 1
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #SCFvJETS

Ipswich is bracing itself for a tough contest against a desperate Sunshine Coast at Stockland Stadium.

The Falcons, still pushing for their first win of the Intrust Super Cup season, will attempt to ambush the fourth-placed Jets in front of their home fans.

The Falcons pushed a highly-fancied Wynnum Manly team last week, particularly in the first half which produced a 10-10 scoreline.

However, the second 40 minutes saw the Seagulls pull clear to win 38-10.

Ipswich is likely to make at least one change, with big prop Rowan Winterfield tipped to come into the team for his first Intrust Super Cup game of the 2014 season.

After a surprise mid-season return to the club, Winterfield had an important hit out for the Jets in their FOGS Cup win over Norths at Bishop Park last weekend.

The Jets have won their past five games against the Sunshine Coast, although their most recent encounter at the North Ipswich Reserve this year was a relatively close contest with the Sunshine Coast posting three second half tries before falling 38-16.

‘Dobbo’ says:

Ipswich were last week back in the winners’ circle after a lean month. The Jets were back to their attacking best with Marmin Barba once again scoring tries from all over the park.

Local boy Matt Parcell has been outstanding at dummy half. The Sunny Coast is rugby league heartland and the players are trying their best, with big Joe Meninga a consistent force.

MACKAY CUTTERS v NORTHS DEVILS

Stadium Mackay on Saturday, June 28 - 6pm
Referee: Michael Gordon
Head to Head: Norths 8 Mackay 6
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #MCvDEVILS

The Mackay Cutters have made several forced changes for Saturday’s must-win clash against the Devils with Cowboys contracted trio Anthony Mitchell, Curtis Rona and John Asiata expected to remain in Townsville to take on the Rabbitohs on Saturday night.

But in positive news, the Cutters will welcome back former Devil Dan Beasley after a long injury lay off.

Kelvin Nielsen has been named to fill the key hooking role in the absence of Mitchell.

For Norths, Troyden Watene gets the chance to start up front following an injury to big prop Jared Blanke in the Devils’ 36-10 loss to the Ipswich Jets.

Norths have lost their last four games to slip from third to eighth, but with nine rounds still to play, there is enough time for Mark Gliddon’s team to turn it around.

It will be another huge day of rugby league at Stadium Mackay with Norths Mackay playing Magpies in an annual Cultural Heritage round match.

The annual event for Norths sees the club celebrate the cultural diversity within the region.

This includes players and match officials wearing specially designed jerseys to mark the occasion.

These will be raffled off at the after match function.

‘Dobbo’ says:

Norths need to turn their season around real quick after another loss, otherwise the writing is on the wall for this proud club.

Last year’s premiers the Cutters have had only six wins for the year and they would be disappointed with how their season has played out so far.

Don’t know who to pick – but I have a feeling if Norths lose again there could be a pay freeze!

Norths Devils by 6.

NORTHERN PRIDE v PNG HUNTERS

Barlow Park on Sunday, June 29 – 2.10pm* (Live on Channel 9/NBN/WIN)
Referee: Michael Wise
Head to Head: Pride 1 PNG 0
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #PRIDEvPNG

Northern Pride are expecting a massive crowd this weekend when they host the PNG Hunters.

A popular drawcard wherever they play; there is a large PNG community in Cairns who have come out in big numbers to support the team in trial matches, leading the Pride to believe their record home crowd of 3200 (against Mackay two years ago) could be broken.

On the field – this is shaping as a key game for the Hunters who have slipped out of the top five following back-to-back losses.

The Pride however have won six games in a row and also have an imposing home record – winning all seven of their matches at “the Jungle” this year.

In team news, Pride co-captain Brett Anderson (shoulder) will be given every opportunity to prove his fitness, while Ricky Thorby has been named to play his 50[SUP]th[/SUP] Cup game, coming in for Joel Riethmuller (hamstring).

For the Hunters, coach Michael Marum has reshuffled his backline, with Dion Aiye to start at five-eighth and captain Israel Eliab shifting to centre for the injured Thompson Teteh.

New signing Jason Tali has been drafted in on the bench.

Timothy Lomai has not been named, with Lawrence Tu’u and Garry Lo the new additions.

‘Dobbo’ says:

Wow, won’t this be a game of rugby league.

The Hunters were beaten soundly last weekend at home and will be looking for an improved performance.

It’s really hard to see the Pride getting beaten at the moment as they have been outstanding the last six weeks.

Kyle Feldt was on song last weekend in another big performance.

Northern Pride by 12.

REDCLIFFE DOLPHINS v TWEED HEADS SEAGULLS

Dolphin Oval on Sunday, June 29 - 2pm
Referee: Chris Anderson
Head to Head: Redcliffe 20 Tweed 6
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #PHINSvTHS

Two youngsters will be asked to fill some pretty big shoes for the Dolphins this weekend, with Colts players Tyson Cleal and Hayden Hansen named for injured co-captain Jon Green and the unavailable Petero Civoniceva for Redcliffe’s important game against Tweed.

Hansen will start at hooker while Cleal will start at prop.

While the Dolphins suffered a second half fade-out last weekend to lose to the impressive Souths Logan 30-20; Tweed Heads were able to salvage a 16-16 draw with Burleigh to extend their unbeaten run to nine games this season.

Prop Damian Sironen is returning from a two-match suspension via the bench, with Cody Nelson named in the starting line-up.

Caleb Binge has been named as 18[SUP]th[/SUP] man while Sam Saville and Oliver Percy are the two players to make way.

It has also been reported that Titan Albert Kelly may be looking to make his return from injury with the Seagulls.

The Seagulls co-captains are on track to achieve some key milestones, with Matt King moving to 224 games, equal fourth all-time with Brendon Lindsay.

James Wood requires two tries to draw level with the club’s top try scorer in the comp, Nat Barnes on 93.

‘Dobbo’ says:

Tweed will be ready to give the Dolphins a big whack.

Tweed just keep on getting better with Tom Merritt attacking from anywhere.

This will be a great game, but picking the Dolphins could bring me to my knees as they have had a frustrating season to date.

Tweed Heads Seagulls by 20.

WYNNUM MANLY SEAGULLS v SOUTHS LOGAN MAGPIES

BMD Kougari Oval on Sunday, June 29 - 3pm
Referee: Nick Morel
Head to Head: Wynnum 24 Souths Logan 10 Drawn 1
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #WYNvSLM
Live Call: http://www.spreaker.com/user/wynnumseagulls2014

A hat-trick of tries in the Seagulls’ win over the Sunshine Coast last weekend has seen fullback Daniel Ogden move to equal 10[SUP]th[/SUP] on the all-time Cup try scorers list.

His 86 tries in 108 games means the former Norths flyer has the best strike rate of any player in the top 10.

In other milestone news, team-mate Matt Grieve has been named to play his 50[SUP]th[/SUP] Cup game, all for the Seagulls.

This week, coach Jon Buchanan has made one change to his team to face Souths Logan, with Mitchell Buckett returning for Joe Mua.

The Magpies are also coming into this match with a win – following an exciting comeback against the Dolphins last Sunday.

They too have only made one change, with Jordan Rapana in at fullback with Grant Cooke not named.

Skipper Phil Dennis led the way with two tries in his XXXX man of the match performance in the win last weekend – and he and his team will need to be sharp if they are to ruffle the feathers of the Seagulls.

Wynnum Manly have been the victors in the past five games between these two sides and have also won seven of their eight games at home this year.

‘Dobbo’ says:

Wynnum Manly are again without Jake Granville but they are tracking really well.

Currently in third, Wynnum Seagulls are the smoky for the comp.

Halfback Matt Seamark is a real threat to any team and fans may start calling him the super boot.

Souths are always super competitive – let’s just see what happens this weekend.

Wynnum Manly Seagulls by 12.

NORTHERN PRIDE v EASTS TIGERS (postponed Round 7 game)

Davies Park, Mareeba on Saturday, July 5
Referee: Michael Gordon
Head to Head: Pride 10 Easts 4
Twitter: #intrustsupercup #PRIDEvTIGES

The Northern Pride and Easts Tigers will head to Mareeba this weekend to play in their re-scheduled match from round 7 of the Intrust Super Cup.

Take a look at the stat-pack for this game from QRL statistician Brad Tallon:

- Round 16, 2014: Pride 44 def Easts 20 (Pride's equal highest score against Easts)

- Pride have won four of past five games against Easts

- Easts have won only one of seven games in Cairns (last year's major semi-final 29-16)

- Pride have not lost at Barlow this year (eight games)

- This is the 5th cup game in Mareeba. Cairns beat Souths and Gold Coast there in 1998 and Wynnum in 2000. Young Guns also beat Wests there in 2003.

- Pride have won seven in a row; Easts have won their past four away games.

- Both coaches have coached 40 games – Demetriou has won 31 lost nine, Ingebrigtsen has win 24, drawn one and lost 15. Demetriou is 3-1 head to head.

- This is the 50th Cup game: Eddie Tautali (all Easts Tigers)

- Queensland Residents/Cowboys/Storm changes have meant that Pride have named only nine, Easts only 10 of the teams that played three weeks ago for this match.
