2014 Four Nations - Australia vs New Zealand

Players missing isn't an excuse for either side, imo.

It's a fact that a severely weakened Kiwis beat a severely weakened Australian side.

Both teams affected no doubt but Australia affected way more and not just in the forwards

Anyway as I said before, NZ deserved the win and well done to them we were poor and they were the better team

Not making excuses either, I'm simply pointing out the effect all of the injuries have had on Australia
 
Don't worry @rhugh89 I've learnt to let the Kiwis celebrate their one win every 5 years, let them have their moment, they're happy to take any win they can lol

I thought Australia looked well on top to start with but losing DCE and Inglis was just the final straw for this incredibly weakened side. Farah at halfback, Walker at fullback, Guerra at centre, come on!! NZ could have easily piled on more points. Plus we have Daniel ****ing Tupou in our side, I've never seen a winger his size be rag dolled so often. Bring in Sione??

Anyway well done NZ for taking advantage, it would have been embarrassing for them if they didn't. Time to bounce back Aussies.

Was Roger Tuivasa Sheck not the Kiwis best outside back at the World Cup? Are Watene-Zalzaniak and Hurrell not outside backs? Is Issac Luke not up there with Shaun Johnson as the Kiwis most creative and important attacking player? SBW enough said (although he was fairly crap at last year's world cup). Puhleeze ... Australia way more affected. :lol: With their player base and the similar amount of players out, they actually should have been less affected.

What on earth makes you think you could "Not let Kiwis celebrate"? I just find it hilarious how you in particular spit the dummy whenever Australia lose, or even previous losses get brought up, and you're on fine form as usual here. :lol:

You're like a hardcore christian shooting down the existence of dinosaurs about the 2008 World Cup! :lol:

And duh, of course I am going to celebrate a rare win ... it'd be somewhat bizzare not to ... beating a side that's won 17 in a row or whatever and totally dominated last year's world cup is a great achievement that should be celebrated.
 
Australia were poor, and on paper still have some of the best player sin the world playing. Yes losing those two during the match hurt, but far out there was no excuse they should of won they were on top in the first 20m and fell away, the kiwi forwards were so much better. Samoa played really well too, be funny to see Samoa and NZ in the final ;)

NZ deserved the win
 
That was actually the first NZ win against Australia that I haven't been at the ground for since 2005! :lol:

At no point was I trying to make excuses or take anything away from New Zealand's win, I was simply pointing out the affect of a massive injury toll

I guess we will just have to disagree about the severity of the injury tolls for the respective teams

As I also stated in the thread a few times I had nothing but congratulations for New Zealand, They deserved that win 100% :)

Scans in Brisbane today revealed Holden Kangaroos player Daly Cherry-Evans suffered a minor hip muscle tear during last night’s Four Nations match against New Zealand.

Cherry-Evans’s recovery will continue to be monitored by the Holden Kangaroos’ medical staff, but he remains a chance of playing against England at Melbourne’s AAMI Park next Sunday.

Fingers crossed! It looked like he was moving more freely when he came off.
 
I reckon both teams were fairly equally matched to start off with, Australia looked good from the start, the Kiwis scored a try, then Australia hit back & so on. The Kiwis were probably still the slightly better team at that point so it was gonna come down to the wire for an exciting game, then Cherry-Evans & Inglis going down stuffed it for the Kangaroos & they were gone. The Kiwis were already up for it, so with Farah & Smith having turns at halfback & Guerra & Scott moving between centre, Australia were always going to fall behind eventually even if the replacements could handle it temporarily. I don't know how bad the injuries are but if Inglis & DCE get back they will be in with a chance again, Hunt & Moylan won't be bad options either.

This is England's chance again, with 1 game under the belt they should be better for the run & might give the Kangaroos a real scare, Samoa look like a beast too, if only their halves were a bit better.

So what happens if Australia lose to England? Are they out of the final? I'm not sure what the make up of it is.
 
If Australia lose and NZ beat Samoa, Australia are out and it'll be England v NZ in the final. If Australia lose and NZ somehow lose, Australia will have to flog Samoa and NZ will have to lose to England if Australia are to play in the final.

And agreed, it was a good contest until those 2 players went off. You can't underestimate the impact and changes it made to Australia. Two man interchange for half the game, several players playing frighteningly out of position for a Test match, not to mention they weren't just forwards who went off, they were 2 of our best players who play 2 of the most important positions. NZ took advantage and well done to them. This was NZ's tournament to lose the moment Australia lost all their players.
 
No matter how hard I try, I struggle to get myself interested in Australian rep footy. I actually find it more exciting seeing two small nations go head to head than seeing New Zealand versus Australia, but that's just me.

I don't know whether it's having to cheer for NSW/QLD players (depending which state you go for) when they play together for Australia or if some get bored of the 2 teams always winning. But personally I'm just as passionate about the Australian team as I am the Knights. Of course it's still awesome watching smaller nations go at it too.

The thing is, I don't hate watching the two states play together, I just struggle to find myself really being passionate about the side, but I've never really known the real reason why.

Probably because they always win. This tournament is one my favourite ones I've seen & it's only been 2 games! Seeing 4 nations that are near to a level playing field fighting it out is awesome. That's not to say Australia shouldn't be allowed to be as dominant as they are, the Kangaroos have 15 clubs developing Australian talent & playing them in the best rugby league comp in the world so they definitely deserve to be as dominant as they are.

I am the same. For me it's interesting seeing unknown players that we rarely see. I am looking forward to the England game and hope the poms win in a close one.

I am sick of Australia being so dominant, so last night was good. To be honest, there is no hype for test footy, we see the same players play every week for 30 odd weeks of the year.

Don't get me started on the marathon of state of origin.

I just think we are overloaded with games, the players are overloaded, and when a rep game comes up, I'm over it.

I think there needs to be a place for all the concepts, I would love to see 1 origin a season with golden point. The reg season shortened. Keep the 9s. Keep the All stars.

Same goes for me. To be honest I'm more passionate about Origin than Four Nations/World Cup. Overall I'd rather the World Cup over Four Nations really.

On the topic of the game, I missed both games as I was away from home but I personally think it's great that New Zealand won. Both sides were depleted with 10+ injuries so neither side had any excuses. Just because star players were out doesn't mean we have to rely on them. Any player selected in any rep teams has to step up no matter who it is and Australia didn't do that last night and probably won't for the rest of the tournament. It'll be an England and NZ final in my eyes which should be good to see if it happens. Was great to see Beau score in the green and gold and have a good game as did Fa'alogo and Leilua.
 
I'm more passionate about the Kangaroos than Blues. For me it goes Knights>Kangaroos>NSW. But not by much.

Australia's dominance is as good to me as it would be if Newcastle won 10 premierships over the next 12 years. I wouldn't get bored of the Knights winning like so many people do Australia. I want the international game to grow as much as anyone but that doesn't mean I enjoy Australia losing. Just me though.
