I know your only new to the forum mate, but try to post Knights related stuff in the Newcastle Knights forum. If you want to discuss our team line up and anything 2012 related, post it in the 2012 discussion/team line ups thread.

Who are you talking to?

Anthony Watts has been linked to us according to Dean Ritchie on Sky Sports Radio this morning. Yuck.

His off field issues aside I wouldn't mind Watts. Good tough player IMO who plays with high energy and intensity. Would be a good player to throw in the mix at hooker. Think he plays some good footy there. Would be great off the bench for us IMO.

andrew ryan has reportedly been told that he is no longer wanted anyone know if newcastle has been linked to him? or made an inquiry

Yeah Ryan doesn't seem like the type that would play against the Dogs. And yeah, I would much prefer Stig to be re-signed first.
With the players we have been linked to and re-signed I think for next year Bird is out of the question. Would love to know though how much of the contracts we are footing for Paterson and Henry and my guess would be about half. Then to see within the cap guidelines here http://www.zerotackle.com.au/nrl-resources/nrl-salary-cap/ how much room roughly we have to move.

A good handy player, but a horrible human being. Don't want scum like him at our club.

Agreed.

If he changed his attitude and was willing to stay clean off the field, would be perfect, especially if we can't get Bedsy. One of my favourite players when he was at NQL, brought a tear to my eye when he decked Farah in the scrum a couple of years back!

Gives great impact from the bench, can play a fair few positions and gives us more mongrel!

Not when it leads top 2 or 3 penalties a game

newcaatle is linked to alot of players that leave other clubs because of one reason or another for example newcastle was linked to jon green and adam cuthbertson just because wayne bennet signed with us and earlier this year with ryan tandy and the young eel halfback in the salary cap scandal both were linked with newcastle from a junior club and i think the eels halfback does play for the newcastle feeder competition and earlier this year we were linked to tom learoyd lars and some big canberra front rowers so i think that does mean that alot of players that are told to leave are linked with newcastle in one way or another. another example is sonny bill williams last year was linked to us again.
and secondly i do not think we need watts at all we have 3 or more players which can play hooker and all of them are better than him

Mate, this is an on-field sport. He is a good player & brings good impact & skill with him. Anything that helps the Knights to a premiership (in a legal way) is a good thing.

If signed Wayne will have a stern talk with him i'm sure. Something along the lines of "the Knights have given you a second chance, to save your career, it's your choice if you wanna stuff it up or not. Aaaaand, if he does stuff it up, simple, Wayne won't put up with him, he will either go or play reserves for the rest of his contract.

Added after 7 minutes:

Just to add, if Watts is that stupid, then i fully agree with you A.Snowden. I just think that he might have a bit of morale in him, given the right coaching.

This is as much an off-field sport as it is an on-field sport, and you knowwhy. Because RL and RL teams are businesses and business needs good images to make money and win support. Bringing a player who is has charges against him for beating a woman is not good business.

Not to mention it is also as much an off-field sport cos it affects their on-field. Case in point with Watts, He plays barely a dozen games, go and bashes his gf and has to be stood down, meaning he is no longer playing and the roosters are a man down for the forseeable games of 2011.

If you dont see that your not very bright.

He already has had a 2nd chance, and the roosters have already done what you said Bennett would do if he screws up. WB isnt god, he isnt magically gonna make a player stay straight just by talking to him. Your deluded if you think that will simply fix the problem. The best coach can make the best players, it doesnt make the best people, nor is it the coaches job to do such. Some people just wont learn.

Not to mention he has big a grub on field, and where near as good as some people are making him out to be on the field.

i don't want Watts yet. Not only did he beat his girl, he also dragged out his mate who he knew was having alcohol troubles. I know part of that is Carney's fault for sure, but it's a stupid stupid move by Watts to even suggest it knowing the problems Carney had.

The Knights themselves are still rebuilding an image and trying to shake a stigma of a drug culture and throwing in another spanner in the works isn't going to help. Watts may be a good player, but let another club reform him and take the risk, then swoop in on him if it looks like he's turned a corner. If we were a fine, upstanding club with a tradition of having model citizens (and there are some players that are absolute role models without a doubt) then we might be able to risk Watts and help him through a positive cultural influence.
