Gold Coast Titans have discussed luring former Penrith halfback Craig Gower to the club, after withdrawing their offer to Darius Boyd amid speculation Newcastle Knights had upped its offer for the St George Illawarra fullback to $500,000 a season.
Titans managing director Michael Searle confirmed that coach John Cartwright had raised his name, with the club looking for options in both the halves and at hooker next season.
Regular No. 9 Nathan Friend is off to the Warriors next year while the club has used several options at five-eighth including Luke Capewell, Greg Bird and William Zillman as they search for a winning combination with Scott Prince at halfback.
Gower, 33, is in France fulfilling his commitment to rugby union club Bayonne, but has indicated his desire to return to the NRL and he has been already linked with several clubs including Penrith, Parramatta and South Sydney.
The Panthers are believed to be the frontrunners for his services given he is keen to move into a coaching role once his playing career is over, but chief executive Mick Leary said there had been no developments since Gower returned overseas.
While Gower has now appeared on the Titans’ radar, Boyd has vanished and looks almost certain to link with Newcastle Knights, although his former club Brisbane Broncos could still be an option.
Boyd has been agonising over his future for some time and he is torn between following Dragons coach Wayne Bennett to the Knights or returning home to Brisbane to be closer to his family.
Gold Coast had imposed a loose deadline of last Friday for Boyd to make his decision and when he remained undecided, Searle elected to pull the offer off the table.
The move could lift the chances of Preston Campbell playing one more season at the club.
The Titans are also in the market for Sydney Roosters forward Nate Myles and Melbourne Storm centre Beau Champion. They want to complete their 2012 roster by the end of this month.

If Boyd is gunna cost 500 000 a year then no thanks!!!!
yeah it seems a bit much to me.Maybe Benny wants him at whatever cost???

Phil Gould to link up with Panthers

The Penrith NRL board is tipped to rubber stamp the appointment of Phil Gould as coaching director on Wednesday in a move which could clear the way for Nathan Brown's return to the NRL.

Speculation was abuzz late on Tuesday night that Gould - who coached the Panthers to their maiden premiership in 1991 - would return to the club in 2012.

The Panthers last month announced coach Matthew Elliott's contract would not be renewed, with their bid to lure Tim Sheens back to the club falling flat when the veteran mentor re-signed with Wests Tigers.

While details of Gould's exact role were not clear, it is believed he will have an overseeing role with an inexperienced coach working under him.

Current Panthers assistant coach Steve Georgallis is believed to be one candidate to fill the head coach role, but Gould's appointment could see Brown, who hasn't coached in the NRL since he was replaced by Wayne Bennett at St George Illawarra after the 2008 season, return to the NRL.

Gould is a known fan of Brown's ability, while the former Dragons hooker has impressed during his three-year stint with Huddersfield in Super League.

Panthers chief executive Michael Leary was unavailable for comment, but a report on the Nine Network - Gould's current employer - claimed all that was left was for the deal to be given board approval.

The Sharks would have the money available for Mason, but he would command massive overs to go there i'd imagine. He declined us last year because he thought our roster was average, don't hold out much hope for them. Probably a nothing article anyway.

Justin Hodges signs a 3 year deal with the Broncs

http://www.zerotackle.com.au/hodges-signs-threeyear-deal-brisbane-broncos-1979/

Justin Hodges is set to see out his career at the Brisbane Broncos after putting pen to a new contract with the NRL club today.
As revealed by The Courier-Mail last month, Hodges will earn in the vicinity of $350,000 a season after signing a three-year deal that will see him stay at the Broncos until the end of the 2014 season.
Hodges’ career was at the crossroads just over a year ago when he snapped his achilles tendon and wiped out his 2010 campaign.
But he has bounced back brilliantly this season – earning selection in Australia’s Test team for last Friday night’s win over New Zealand – and the Broncos want the Maroons centre to mentor the next generation of backline stars headed by Jharal Yow Yeh, Gerard Beale, Jack Reed and Dale Copley.

c'mon guys its the damn daily telegraph, they are rubbish reporters and just need something to put into their columns...

Im suprised they dont have us chasing a NEW player every day, just so they can look like they know what they are talking about.

Beau champion signs with the titans for 3 years

http://www.zerotackle.com.au/champion-add-strike-titans-2018/

The Gold Coast Titans have added further strike power to their backline for next season with Melbourne centre Beau Champion today signing a three-year contract with the club.
Champion will join the Titans from next season until the end of 2014 after being formally granted a release from the final years of his existing contract with the Melbourne Storm.
The 24-year-old will join rising superstar Jamal Idris in the Titans backline for next season, adding further depth and strike power to a roster which already includes fellow flyers Kevin Gordon and David Mead.
The 186cm, 96kg centre, who has represented City Origin over the past two years as well as the Indigenous All Stars, said he had enjoyed his time at the Storm but for personal reasons had elected to make his move north to the Titans.
Titans Coach John Cartwright said Champion will provide the club with a real presence in the backline from next season.
