2009 NRL Player Rumours & Signings

That is a great back line, though I think I'd prefer:

1. Gidley
2. Inglis/Hayne
3. Cooper/Inglis
4. Hodges
5. Folau

So basically Gidley at fullback and maybe Cooper over Hayne, though that's a big maybe.

I'd have Cooper over Hayne. I'd also have Gidley over Slater but I'm pretty sure that's just bias.

The only thing with having Cooper over Hayne is that it would obviously push Inglis out to the wing, meaning he'd be less involved, which would be a bad thing IMO, though I personally rate Cooper very highly. I think he's arguably the best defensive centre in the game, and he's also pretty good with the ball in his hands too.

I rate Hayne pretty highly aswell, though I'm just not sure if I rate him as highly as I do Cooper.

Thinking about it, I think I'd have:

1. Gidley
2. Inglis
3. Cooper
4. Hodges
5. Folau

Though in attack, have Inglis in the centres and Cooper on the wing. Then in defence, have Cooper in the centres and Inglis on the wing. That means Inglis will be heavily involved in attack in the centres, and Cooper can defend in the centres as he's a great defender.

I also don't think saying you'd prefer Gidley over Slater is being bias. They're both great players, though they're both totally different players, so IMO, it just comes down to whatever you prefer in a fullback. Personally, I prefer Gidley and what he offers.

Michael Henderson re-signs with Titans

Gold Coast have re-signed prop Michael Henderson through to the end of the 2012 NRL season.

The retention comes as a tremendous show of faith in the 24-year-old, who had another 18 months to run on his existing deal and is just five games into a comeback from a badly broken leg.

Henderson played only five games in 2007 before his season was ruined by a spiral fracture in his leg.

"The last 12 or so months have been pretty tough and not what I really wanted when I moved up here," said Henderson, who joined the Titans after four seasons at St George Illawarra.

"But I'm extremely happy with way the leg has come back and the way I've recovered.

Titans coach John Cartwright said Henderson's ability to rebound from last year's lows showed a great amount of mental toughness.

"You build your side on front rowers," Cartwright said.

"Hendo has had a very tough couple of years with injury and he's shown what he's made of with the way he's come back.

"He probably should only be getting back to playing first grade now but out of necessity he's played the last five games and he's performed well."

"He's young as far as front rowers are concerned so his best football is in front of him and I feel representative footy is only around the corner for him."

Rhys Wesser is in negotiation with other Clubs. They are trying to offload him as they see Coote is the future. He is also worth 320k on Panthers contract.

Teams that would need him

- Tigers: Hodgson leaving next year
- Souths: They haven't had a decent fullback since Peachey

Karmichael Hunt is being chased by Broncos, Dragons, Roosters, France and Queensland Red (union). Off-contract in 2009.

QLD Reds need a fullback, Chris Latham has buggered off to France and theres not too many players i can think of that are capable of playing decent fullback apart from Schicofske but hes more of a winger now.

Roosters dont need one, even with minichello aging they have perrett and Roberts who can both play a bit of fullback and shaun kenny dowell on the wings not oo shabby either.

Broncos Probably wont have too much cap room to resign, unless Hunt has the loyalty to take a bit of a pay cut.

Dragons need a fullback with morris gone, and have heaps of cap room with gaz leaving. wouldnt be suprised if the signed him

France, well no one knows, they have the money for it.....

Luke Priddis > Dragons

Priddis becomes a Dragon

July 21, 2008 Penrith veteran Luke Priddis has been thrown an NRL lifeline and will join St George Illawarra on a two-year deal from 2009.

Priddis, 31, will reunite with his former Brisbane Broncos coach Wayne Bennett at the Dragons in what will be his 13th season in first grade.

Priddis has played 279 NRL games already after making his debut for Canberra in 1997 and will bring valuable experience to the Dragons.

“Luke is a mature and experienced campaigner who will be a great asset to our club both on and off the field,” said Dragons chief executive Peter Doust.

“He has represented his country, won premierships and will be a great influence and role model for our younger players.”
