2009 Knights Side - Opinions

We have a great front row imo, Cross is a top player, Tolar is an honest toiler who very rarely makes errors, Wicks has a hell of a lot of potential if he'll pull his finger out, Taufua & Natusch bring mongrel and Fa'aoso is a very hit and miss player if he can keep his hands in check he'll be unstopable. I'm holding judgement on Edwards and Tovo untill I see them play.
Also, Gids is wasted at halfback he doesn't have the kicking game or organisational skills needed to be a top halfback he plays best when he picks his chances rather than being the go to man.

Gidley's game blossomed when he moved to full back........ I always thought that he wanted to do too much when he played in close....... At FB he gives the back line another dimension......... Have you ever seen a better kick chaser?

I have seen a lot of full backs over my not inconsiderable years and he is as good as the best of them!

Reilly didn't have a team built for him though

Hagan's premiership was given to him on a platter by Warren Ryan

David Waite had set up a very strong club by the time Reilly arrived. He just didn't have the first grade side performing (perhaps a couple of years before their time?).

The nucleus of the 1997 side was there in 1994.

I agree about Hagan and Ryan though.

Hagan still had to train the players, motivate them, etc. Most importantly he got along with the players. It's not as if someone else did that.

He was their mate ... a coach needs to be separated from the players and he needs to be looked up to by them.
