2008 NRL Player Rumours & Signings

Brenton Bowen signs NRL deal with Titans

Wednesday, June 20, 2007 - 5:25 PM

North Queensland winger Brenton Bowen has signed a two-year deal with NRL club Gold Coast from 2008.

Titans coach John Cartwright said Bowen had blistering pace and would add to the squad's depth.

"Brenton is another player that we spoke about early in the piece when first starting to assemble the team," Cartwright said.

"He reads the game very well and he offers blinding speed on the flank.

"He's proven to be quite a try-scoring machine when given the opportunity and he'll add great depth to our squad with his ability to slot in at wing or in the number one jumper."

Bowen, the cousin of Cowboys fullback Matt Bowen, has scored six tries from 13 games for North Queensland this season.

"I really think the club has a big future and I want to be a part of it," he said about the Titans.

"I am hoping that I take my game to the next level at the Titans and with the staff at the club, I am confident that I can."

The wing position has been cursed for the Titans this year, with Melbourne's Steve Turner and Great Britain international Brian Carney walking out on the club before the season had started.

Former Queensland Origin flyer Chris Walker broke his thumb in the opening round match and was later suspended by the Titans for eight weeks after becoming involved in an alcohol-related incident at a Gold Coast nightclub.

Rabbitohs confirm Wing signing

Wednesday, June 20, 2007 - 2:53 PM

South Sydney have confirmed utility Craig Wing will make his return to the NRL club from the Sydney Roosters in 2008 on a four-season deal.

The 27-year-old came up through the juniors with the Rabbitohs and burst onto the NRL scene in 1998 and 1999 with the club, playing 41 first-grade games before the Rabbitohs were omitted from the NRL.

The NSW and Australian representative has gone on to play 217 NRL games in a glittering career which has featured four grand finals with the Roosters, including a premiership win in 2002.

Wing said he was looking forward to returning to his roots.

"I'm very excited about it, actually I'm trying not to get too excited about it," Wing said.

"When I was a child the Rabbitohs were always the team I wanted to play for and it is great to be going back.

"I've been to a lot of places all over NSW and Australia doing promotional work and everywhere I go people are always asking me when are you going back to the Rabbitohs?

"So it's great to be finally able to answer that question.

"Returning to Souths has always been an option and I can't wait to start but I have my commitments to the Roosters and my team mates this season first."

The Roosters rushed out a premature announcement about Wing's departure on Monday night, which was not well received by the Rabbitohs.

Also rumours of Dragons signing Big Dell Sailor

Brenton Bowen will be a good signing for the Titans, the Cowboys treat their outside backs very sloppily - always dropping and re-instating them, there is no continuity!

9 gained to 14 losses, but you can add Carl johnson and that Fa asa guy to the gains. you look at the losses and Snowden is the only really young guy we have lost. the rest are like 23+.

it is going to feel weird first game next yr, its going to be a completley different look knights side, the start of a new era

Isnt cooper Vuna already playing for the knights this year?? why is he a gain?? Yay thank god Tate's leaving..ha ha i remembe+r this guy at the knights V Broncos game last year..they were funny and they told Brent to get his coat hanger out of his shirt..

I wouldn't really classify him as a gain ... since he is already here. But it's all good.
