2007/2008 Summer of Cricket Discussion

NZ win the final one dayer and take out the series 3-1! Yay!!! At least we still rule at one dayers, even if we are the equivalent of Bangladesh in test matches (and worse in 2020).

Yeh, we played like drains. 1st Test vs. South Africa starts a week on Thursday. Can't say that I'm too confident TBH.

What do you mean? 2020 in general?

If so i disagree. As PK said, its the future of Cricket... With more domestic tournaments and events like the IPL, i dont see it going anywhere.

I just don't like the concept..it is good every now and then but it is getting boring with a heap of matches being played

It's not gonna go anywhere unfortunately :(

There is a danger of Twenty20 overkill. It's excitement probably comes in the fact that it's different. If it becomes the norm then its novelty wears off pretty quickly and people get bored of it.

I like 20 20 but I am definately a test cricket fan. One dayers seem to get too repititive these days, it sort of livens things up a bit.

I love tests the most by far ... but NZ are so crap at them now, it sort of kills them.

A few years ago back in 2002 when NZ were second in the world in tests, those were the days. Stupid umpire cost us a series win in Aus.

I prefer test matches and ODI's to 2020 you can't have the same intensity in such a short form I really enjoy watching a bowler work a batsmen over for a few overs and then get him out

I prefer test matches and 20/20 over ODI's.

Test matches are an immense test of character, for bowlers to bowl so many overs and batters to face so many balls, just an intense phsyical and mental drain.

20/20 is great because you need to be highly skilled to be able to score runs really quickly, although I'm a little sceptical of the boundary sizes in IPL, damn they were small.

I don't mind ODI's, I just prefer the others more so.

My new favourite player is Ronchi an aggressive keeper batsmen from WA sounds somewhat familier doesn't it

Does anyone on here know anything about Pattinson the new english opening bowler apparently he's from Australia

Cricinfo Profile

After years of toiling away for Dandenong in Melbourne's club cricket, higher honours appeared to have permanently eluded Darren Pattinson. However, Victoria plucked him seemingly from nowhere when a spate of injuries struck down their frontline fast bowlers in November 2006. At 28, the uncontracted Pattinson made his Pura Cup, limited-overs and Twenty20 debuts and proved a steady and reliable new-ball option. His job as a roof-tiler took a backseat as he claimed 4 for 87 in his maiden first-class match against South Australia. Despite impressing with his line and length and sometimes clocking more than 145kph, Pattinson missed out on a big haul in his first season but earned his initial state contract for 2007-08. He was only used twice in Pura Cup games in his second season as the strike bowlers returned and he picked up five wickets from four FR Cup matches. Pattinson, who was born in England, was signed by Nottinghamshire at the start of the 2008 season on a two-year contract. After picking up 29 wickets at 20.86 midway through the summer, he was called up by England as cover for the second Test against South Africa at Headingley, and incredibly found himself thrust in for his international debut when Ryan Sidebottom failed a fitness test.
