The problem here is that every keeper is "the next Alec Stewart" and any sign of not living up to that is jumped on. Ambrose seems to be the latest to be tagged. England are after an Adam Gilchrist (aren't all countries?) - but they're one in a million.

If McCullum keeps his current form up then he is up there with Gilchrist.

Hes on dead-set fire! i still get shivers thinking about when him and How chased down 110 or something similar and he was on 80 with How left on only 12

steady on McCullum is ok but his test record is ok at best and he averages under 30 in ODI's he can be expolosive but more so against weaker attacks eg that 80 odd off 30 balls against Zimbabwae he may have the potential but is nowhere near gilly

He's still a young guy and still improving, and he has played just as well vs England as he did against Bangers (actually, he's played better vs England!).

point taken james
speaking of keeper batsmen tim ambrose is 97 not out at the close of the first days play

James, I saw McCullum, Vettori and Patel shopping on Lambton Quay yesterday. I swear Patel is stalking me!

Just like Anton Oliver was stalking me, he even followed me to Wellington. :o

I'm playing cricket today, and I have to work tomorrow, so I can't see any of it live, let alone at the ground! :(

I can't believe Graeme Smith is the number 1 ODI batsmen he's hopeless has one good series against Bangledesh who are **** and he's number 1

Yea, but the ranking takes into consideration the opposition though.
Last i heard Tendulkar was 1, but now its been updated:

Name/Country
1 G.C. Smith SA
2 S.R. Tendulkar IND
3 R.T. Ponting AUS
4 Mohammad Yousuf PAK
5 M.L. Hayden AUS
6 A.C. Gilchrist AUS
7 M.E.K. Hussey AUS
8 K.P. Pietersen ENG
9 A.B. de Villiers SA
10 M.S. Dhoni IND

NSW look in good shape of winning the Pura cup with a lead of over 350 with wickets in hand.

Phil Hughes - 114
Simon Katich - 92 (stupid Michael Clarke ran him out trying to get a quick single to bring up his 50)

Congrats Pommie Knight on a much improved performance.

I must be gracious in defeat, because I wasn't very in victory haha.

Yes, a much better performance last night. A deserved win, the bowlers did really well - 5fors for Sidebottom and Anderson.

I can't see Harmison playing in the last Test and since he doesn't do ODI or 20/20 then it was a waste of time him going to NZ. As good as he has been over the past few years, if he's not doing it now then he shouldn't have a central contract.

What the hell's going on in Napier? England 4 for 3 on day 1, then NZ 168 all out on day 2. James, are you getting a call up for the tour in the Summer?

That series had NZ win written all over it. Fleming goes out with AVG over 40, and a 50 in each innings.

NZ Team can only get better.

NZ did alright for a team that has lost Astle, McMillan, Bond, Styris, Fleming and Vincent in the last year (not sure if I've forgotten any others).

Before the series started few thought they'd win a single match, let alone the one day series and a test match. It's a really young team and it will improve.

Yea there's lots for NZ to take from the whole series, though they have to look at the positives and not the negatives.

How did Ross Taylor end up going ?

He was the best batsman, I'd say. Scored his maiden test century and was solid throughout.
