NRL Round 16 - Knights Vs Dragons - 8:00pm Friday, 19th of June - McDonald Jones Stadium

It was one of those ones though where there was 3 in the tackle, Gutho on the ball and the other two pulling the arms to loosen and then they call it as the player rips it away
Hard to defend those, raiders and Storm have perfected it.
Should not be allowed to strip like that after you get 2-3 in tackle like that as not many people can fight that and keep the ball

Hate that rule so much. It should only be a 1 on 1 strip if there was only ever one in the tackle. Oh there was technically not multiple tacklers as of the split second before the ball actually came out is it? Idiotic.

You hear, “a wins a win” but bloody hell. I hate that we almost lost to a team that was worse than us last year.

If Newcastle want to challenge for a premiership they need to be a whole lot better than that. Our defence stinks at the moment and the dumb mistakes are giving the bottom feeders are a proper sniff.
Given how the Knights were such an outside toilet show from midway through last season, I have to temper my realistic expectations on game day this year as very few teams go from the lavatory to the penthouse in one season.
I am aware that we had 3 excellent players out tonight, that we had some patches of poor defence, that we invited despair into our lives by not catching 6th tackle kicks, and that we went away from what the best teams do in 2026, but I am so pleased and proud that we are winning ugly and currently sitting in 3rd place on the ladder.
I’ll take that any day and wouldn’t swap it for the world given the Knights debacle that was 2025.
We take the 2 points, take our lessons, and understand that there are no easy games in the NRL.
Bring on Beanie For Brain Cancer round at home next weekend against the old Tiges.

I thought the game changed when Crossland through the forward pass when we'd jut got a six again an was on their 10 metre line. We had the momentum. I think if we scored there and gone 16 or 18 nil up, the floodgates may well have opened. Also, with the Knights first try can someone please tell me why when a player is backing up for a 2 on 1 inside ball, the support player wants to run alongside of the ball carrier if not marginally in front of him when there is no chance of someone catching him. I thought the pass was borderline at best and they didn't need to do it. 1 metre behind him takes the forward pass risk out of it. It happens all time with all teams and its bloody annoying when they don't need to. I know sometimes they have to be flat but not in this case.

In the light of day we won and that’s all that matters if we turn up better next week then all of this doesn’t matter as still got the job done in a game we lose most over years
We only used 16 of our players lastnight and one of those was Graham an out and out hooker so they were fatigued and it showed
Don’t know if they tried to get an exemption after Saulo was injured but they missed not having someone like Crouch on the bench to help rotate the middle better
Sharpe did well in attack, his defence and positioning was average and after a while he was hesitant to attack kicks which dragons took advantage of
Brown,Best and Gags locked away edges really well lastnight and we were making easy metres through edges also, almost scored another 3 tries from hitting edges quickly but then lost the momentum in the middle to attack edges with tired forwards.
middles good most of game till near end when tiring and Lulia with fresh legs and offload almost got us

A lot of us saw this coming as they have been a bit off after their byes and against lower couple teams but I think a lot was down to the bench this week and having a hooker and 3 backs on bench in the end and a few tired players almost cost us but just did enough

Saints had very high completion rates and you could argue that was the best they have played this season.
We had a way off our best side, but guys like Cant and Manu and Smith had a chance to get some valuable gametime and contribute to us grinding out a win.
I hope it was our worst game for the year, but we got the 2 points and some squad members got to contribute to our season.
If we see a bunch of upsets this round, with a lot of games where lower sides have a chance to beat sides missing SOO players, we could end this round in a good position.

Sharks and roosters play each other, so one of them definitely overtakes us.
Phins v Tigers, if Phins win they over take us.
Manly v Dogs, if Manly win they over take us.

Worst case scenario we'll be 6th, which is the likely outcome imo.
Best case 4th.

3.54s for us and 3.5s for them apparently
Admitedly i dont watch all games but from what i have seen it looks like the last couple of weeks that the refs have been instructed to limit the 6 agains. As frustrating as the 6 agains could be sometimes i think they suited our team as we have a fast , skilled mobile team. The Melboune game was a great example not a chance they win that game if they got pinged for slowing down the ruck.

His positioning in defence was not good. KPs isn't elite either but dragons probably score 2 less tries from kicks if he plays
Also I feel like a lot of Ponga getting caught out is because he has to fill in in the line a bit too much because we’re getting killed through the middle third. Whereas I thought Sharp got caught out a bit on some fairly innocuous kicks when there wasn’t much on.

Also thought Harrison had a bit of a come back down to Earth game so there’s my answer to where Sandon plays when everyone’s fit.

League is funny. Everyone complains they hate 6 agains, then everyone complains when 6 agains go away.
True. There should be a happy medium though. Sutton thought he was reffing an Origin game from 2016 last night. He put the whistle away and let both sides get away with murder in the ruck. There were times in the 2nd half St George were taking the **** with how long they were laying on us.
