Yeh really not sure what was going through Maddos head playing a shot like that with only a few overs to bat. Really not sure why the selectors opted to bring him in. He had all the talent in the world when he was younger but unfortunately never went on with it and just looks out of his depth at this levelYeah the wicket is pretty flat, still enough in it with the new ball, get through another 15 overs with only losing our nightwatchmen and we will be ok. All set up for a ton for marnus @Lefty.
Also tell Nic Maddinson he can swim home.

Rabada looked genuinely to quick for him. Did the selectors not think at some point we might need our openers to grind it out for periods, ahh the answer to that is to pick 2 attacking middle order players, 1 who is still living off 2 better than a run a ball 100s and is clearly a quality middle order player and the other is a bloke who hasnt played red ball cricket for nearly 2 years and is also a counter attacking style player. Konstas is still to green to be succesful at test level but atleast his a genuine opener who has shown he does have grit and patience when needed.

The continued selection of Manus and the bizarre selection of Maddinson have me questioning the competence of the selectors.
They got the selection of Renshaw correct but this he was an obvious selection.
We need to find 2 decent openers. I would start by swapping Head and Renshaw.

I think largely they have made the right calls, it was both the right time to bring in and drop weatherald, dropped marnus until he proved his better than everyone in shield and reinstate him. The way they rotated the bowling attack through the ashes with guys like richardson and neser around cummins and hazelwoods absences. Picking renshaw off the back of odi form shows there is more than one way into this team also.

I am going to say i dont think maddinson plays for australia ever again. Cam green should be right for the 3rd test and also inglis, i dare say renshaw will (and rightly so imo) go back to the top.

nz home on tamer decks than previous years is the right conditions. Im inclined to let him keep building his game in shield for abit longer, bad series sets him back another couple of years.
Hows mcsweeney feeling though.. we watched that bloke do an admirable job scrapping for his life against bumrah (adelaide pink ball under lights comes to mind) and his at home watching maddinson unable to let a ball go outside off stump
you have inglis and green or sam harper on tour, none of them will replace marnus. Marnus is still the top shelf for first drops whether we like it or not1. Drop Manus now, fly another batsman in for Cape Town if necessary.
2. Sack the 3 selectors, they are responsible for the mess caused by selecting Manus for way too long.

In my opinion, we will not be losing anything by playing McSweeney in the next test. He is more likely to score runs than Marnus.you have inglis and green or sam harper on tour, none of them will replace marnus. Marnus is still the top shelf for first drops whether we like it or not
His not in the setup currently and next test starts tuesday ..if ya hellbent on removing marnus , which i still dont think they have the appetite for and personally i thought he played pretty well in the first test, cam green has batted 3 in the past and did a decent job of it in the west indies in horrible conditions (think he hit 70 odd in the game we rolled them for 26).
Id like to see a guy like mcsweeney or any new batsmen in the setup come in at 6.
I just dont see change outside maddinson, the core guys are still the best red ball players in the country including marnus.
The replay of the marnus wicket isnt doing him any favours is it
if we didnt have such a selfish number 4 (love the bloke) he would be at 3. Selfish might be the wrong word.
When the best batsman since bradman refuses to bat 3 it gives a little insight into what a tough role it is. Especially when you have spent the best part of your career behind useless openers.
