Recruitment And Retention Discussion

Jacob didn’t care last time about dollars when it came to negotiations, and basically was staying, not sure what the point is of saying he could be lured by a rival club when likely no one would offer something too good to be true, and we wouldn’t offer something ridiculously lowballed

The Eels had sounded out Newcastle recruiter Peter O’Sullivan about a potential move, but he has opted to join Brisbane for next season. The Eels have also been eyeing off Dragons recruiter Daniel Anderson, while the Knights have made their contingency plans, knowing O’Sullivan was going to leave.

Newcastle has identified Scott Fulton and Ezra Howe as potential recruiter replacements. Howe was poised to join Perth, but that move was torpedoed after he was accused of scouting for the Bears while still on the books for the Gold Coast Titans. Fulton was chiefly responsible for assembling a strong Manly roster before a short-lived stint at the Tigers.

Those do not sound like good replacements, I hope they’re not the only potential candidates 😬

Fulton's brief stint at the Tigers was a disaster, but that seems to be the norm for all Tigers’ front office staff. Two things I remember: he wanted to sign Jack Cogger as their halfback (Benji wanted Aidan Sezer), and wanted to sign Josh Schuster from Manly. Overruled on both and was out the door soon after. Manly fans aren't much fonder of him, either.

I said earlier I hope they don’t just give the job to Alex McKinnon, but I genuinely might prefer him to both of those options based on what we know.

I'd take the one from the Titans. The Gold Coast is a graveyard for professional sport. As we've seen with Holbrook & Brett White, not getting results there isn't a reflection on you. Legit think no team there will ever be good & everyone who works there is trying to push **** up a hill.

Fulton made way more boneheaded decisions than the Titans guy IMO... I don't tend to hate the decisions the Titans make in a vacuum, it's just nothing seems to work, no one comes through there wanting to be a Titan, players who go there are motivated by wanting to bang plastic surgery'd ladies and snort drugs, etc... Wests have no excuse at all, they just pull the wrong rein at every crossroads.

I’d be really devastated if we got close to the 8 or just made it and bowed out first round but making it to the grand final is job done you’d think for most guys in his position.

Funny I was JUST reading an article on POS on Google, closed it down opened up this to find out he is leaving. He come under fire and was scrutinised for the Dylan Brown signing (at that stage it was just talk) and he told Buzzed Rothfield that Brown would absolutely make us contenders and he’d been chasing him since he spotted him at 17.

Even if he wasn’t playing half the season he most definitely was doing something behind the scenes.
