McCarthy had a big game playing 2nd row in Cup, scored tries, big tackle count and consistent all season has earned a spot on bench and covers two positions very well. Not sure we are serious with Lucas but McCarthy offers as much at 2nd row and more at centre than Cant in my opinion, a good back up who is more likely at centre than 2nd row.
My rating, centre 1 Winter, 2 McCarthy. 2nd row 1 McCarthy 2 Cant., of course if Lucas is fit throws all that out the window.
Feel a bit sorry for fringe players selected for 1sts but unlikely to get game time and missing out on potential G/Final in Cup brought about by injuries, I rate Cup side more likely to make G/Final than firsts, hope and want them both to make it.

I think Cant's ability to bust his gut in the middle for 20 mins if required is as much a reason he is on the bench as his edge cover.

Still can’t fathom why we have the Friday/Saturday teams playing Sunday ( 8 and 9 day turnaround).

While the Saturday/Sunday teams play Saturday (7 and 6 day turnarounds).

Sometimes it’s unavoidable - must be broadcast/NZ time related.

I’ll take the favourable recovery - but just seems a bit weird

yeah it's the broadcast time. Channel 9 currently dictate the timeslots for finals matches, and Sunday 4pm realistically is the only timeslot that works for NZ. They also wouldnt want to play 2 matches on the same day - ie 5pm + 730pm Saturday. They don't want something that clashes with the News at 6pm.

Surely its just the accor game going on sale. Makes sense your not gunna get close to capacity. 50k isnt out of the question though knowing it will be either the wahs or us there. Il be going down if we get through only for the fact our 2013 prelim feels like a lifetime ago.
 
I think they switched to Fri/Sun prelims last season & the main reason as with most of PVL's decision-making is TV ratings.
