Somewhere amongst all the money being offered has to be the honouring of the opportunity to become a success both as a player and as a future earning capacity.
Take Dylan Brown who obviously received a big pay day after getting his opportunity with the Eels, then we have Dylan Lucas who sought the opportunity with the Knights, proved his worth, shined but resigned with Knight with opportunities to sign elsewhere..
Then we have the likes of Manu who has played with a couple of other clubs and has found his form due to a change of attitude, different coaching and a change of a desire to succeed.
Bradman Best is looking around, considering his options and if past recent efforts of team mates is an indication he will likely decide to re-sign and stay.
Being locally entrenched in a side showing upwards success makes it hard too leave when past success have been few.
The loss of Gags, Frizell and Jones all long term to high quality performers will be a sad loss but I am sure that given a opportunity with success close by, season or two, all three would re-sign tomorrow if the opportunity was available.
I believe that the Knights, bit like Raiders without the cold are unique, friendship, bond, location, life style for all, married, families is an attraction.
I am very confident that the next few years will bring us more success than the last X amount of years
 
If it came down to it, who would you lot keep if it came down to Best or Dom?

Best - hugely important to our defence, but can have quieter games, doesn't always impose himself on the result, can certainly find an injury

Dom - can score a try from anywhere, important on starting our sets well, but will he be as effective without Gagai inside him?

Dom is going to be the cheaper one to keep, I would say. And I'm not sure we have as many wingers coming through that would be a good replacement. There's a few options for Best.

Just curious, I'd lean towards Best, but as I go through the pros and cons, maybe Dom should be the priority?
 
It does annoy me how often Best does have a quiet game in attack, would be nice for him to go looking for it more. But then I wonder if that's a strategy from him and the training staff to lessen his workload to keep him more fit.

Would love to keep Young as a pure athlete, he's always going to score 20 tries a season.

It's a hard one, Best is probably a more important cog but he misses so much football and has lots of games where you don't notice him. Dom is capable of shockers and is just a finisher really, but you know he'll score if you give him a chance.
 
Our left edge has shown it falls to pieces in defense alot without best there. If we lose best we need to buy a like for like replacement i think, lose dom and i think hunt can be the man and spend some $ elsewhere.
 
I was reading somewhere and can’t remember the source so more than likely not it’s crap but Newcastle are keeping an eye on Bostock if Best chooses to go elsewhere. Apologies if this has already been brought up
 
It’s a tough one. Great question though and I think it needs to be considered by knights.

Dom - cheaper, more reliable injury wise and scores trys from nothing
- however he is more easily replaceable, Hunt can do the job and Gow and Nonu are on the way up with another pre season in them.

Brady. - one of the best defensive in the game and wonderful at setting up his winger. He isn’t as easily replaced, Hunt/Winter would be first choices and good choices, but if they get injuries I’m not sure we have decent back ups yet for that role, especially long term

- however. Not reliable injury wise for the cost, as Gould said, doesn’t involve himself enough. If he went Herbie or Gags level of involvement then sure.

If we resign them both it means we lose Frizz most likely unless they find places for Arthur, McCarthy and Schiller to go too.

Resign them both is preferable and achievable. But it’s then pits the pressure on signing Sharpe and Hopwood to decent upgrades. Helluva predicament, thankfully we have Sully to work through it.

HVG said it last week I think, and I think he's right ... we also really need to consider the Sharpe future fund. Keeping Ponga, Brown and Sharpe is the long term goal for me (sorted with 2/3 of course) ... we can build a successful team around those three for the foreseeable future.
 
We don't know how big the difference is between what we are offering, and what his camp are expecting. It might not be much, but of course, it might be a lot.

We thought Moses was playing hardball with Lucas, and got a deal done. As we know the never ending media speculation that the Ponga's play hardball and they got a deal done in freakin' April with everything said. Two of their most important retentions and guys who would have been chased after by anyone who could if they hit the open market.

The Eels biggest signing was probably Moses back then, but the others have been kind of discarded and a bit past their prime like Fox, RCG, JDB
You get a few decent pickups like Hodgson and guys who were meant to be marquee signings like Pezet, and Matterson but haven't really panned out.

Best will be their Best (har har) signing since Moses if it happens.

Sharpe is pencilled in longterm regardless of who we extend now, i have no doubts pos is building the entire roster around these 3. Probably the reason best is now at a take it or leave offer it seems.
