Recruitment And Retention Discussion

Gagai wasn't as good at 18/19 as he developed into. We cant develop those guys without first grade time.

Gags was a turnstile in defence all the way up to when he returned to us. So looking for a Jr that's a complete package like a guy thats going to go down as a legend of the game? Thats not gonna happen. But we gotta develop these guys.
True true but Gagai was absolutely shredding defenders in QLD Cup with ball in hand at that age.

Much like Best and other tier 1 talent, by his late teen years Gagai was dangerous with the ball at FG level. We don't have a junior of that calibre at the club imo. Winter might be the best of the young blokes yet to debut but he's not THAT good.

Yes, I remember when Gags was sacked by the Broncos, every club was chasing his signature and there was a huge amount of hype around him. I do wonder whether we might look at signing Votano on a development deal. Of the candidates for the vacant centre spot, I think he has the best passing game that would complement Dom.

Jack Howarth from the Storm being released. Good young centre. Would be a perfect replacement for Dane.
The fact that storm refused to release him for lomax like 3 months ago to now letting him go says it all about where he is at.
He would probably be able to turn into a semi decent second rower with a bit more bulk and tackle practice

McCarthy would be the best straight up replacement if he stays for Gagai as he is a much more rounded defender than Dane and has the ability under highball also but who knows if he doesnt get offers and ends up leaving.
that would give Winter, Hunt time in nsw cup to develop and allow Seve and Baxter Best to play jersey flegg and develop their game with maybe occasional game in cup also

Would like to know where or what seemed to go wrong with Marcus Dacre as he always seemed to play alright but was 18th man for few weeks than nowhere so assuming injured but he showed signs of developing nicely

POS in his interview said 2027 cap is spent so we won’t be recruiting more new players this year and next.

Has Hunt been playing cup? Or stuck on six man bench? That’s my one gripe with the six man bench. Maybe the coach should be rotating the replacement outside back each week?

Aren't they playing a lot of cup games after firsts now to allow for the 2 non played reserves to get grade time?

Would love to see a depth chart, in his interview he said he has like our roster for the next 3-4 years mapped out.

I couldn't see what all the fuss about Kingston Seve was for till the under 19s SOO and maybe the Flegg game before that.
But now I see it.
He scored a try in a Flegg game where he got the ball about 10 from a fully set defensive line and just put on a step that Ponga would be proud of to step through the line and score without a hand on him.
He did a similar step to make a line break in origin.
He is at least as tall as Hunt and McCarthy and might be as tall as Dom before he finishes growing.
He is tall, strong, can step, can pass, can jump.
I think it was POS who talked about him as the next Crighton or Su'ali (can't spell either of them). Having missed half the season with injury, we haven't seen him do anything to justify those claims - but he has all the physical attributes. If he'd have stayed fit and played the Ball season, we'd probably have a Ball title and be raving about this guy.

Anyway - the twin towers on the right wing in Flegg - Seve and Nonu - are the two to keep an eye on for the rest of this year and in the pre-season - hard to tell them apart if you can't see their numbers and both showing massive potential right now.

Yeah it'd be easy work if you were top 30 and on the 6 man bench all the time! Getting paid the same to basically play 30 minutes here and there every few weeks!
