Recruitment And Retention Discussion

Funny how we’ve had all this Sandon / Sharpe debate on positions and having room (mainly for Sandon). Yet I think he’s played minutes in every match, maybe more than Sharpe noting injuries. Including Graham, it’s handy and necessary to have 6 players fitting into 5 spine roles (inc #14). They will all be required.
Yeah without Smith available to cover for the injuries, we probably have at least 3 less wins. Depth is so important, especially in the spine

I doubt the issue with keeping Gags/Friz is about wanting to keep them; rather, it's about losing roster spots for younger players with a long-term future.

If we have a very strong chance to win a premiership this year or next year, I can see having those veterans could be key, but given our window is not likely open yet, despite some excellent progress this year, all we're doing by keeping veterans is blocking a path to FG for a younger player who could be the real difference when our premiership window is open.

The Broncos, coming off a premiership and with a stacked roster, gambling on a short-term vet makes more sense than for a side still building imo.

We have to let go of one veteran eventually, he’s playing superbly but fact is we need to have a spot available for a junior to take over soon enough. Between Hunt, Winter, McCarthy, Seve. Hunt and Winter being the closest and best mindsets, in regards to training and ceiling.

Still expect Schiller, McCarthy to be moved on if they can find contracts, possibly Matty Arthur and if knights see fit they may end up sacking Kepaoa for his incident which opens another top 30 spot

I like the guy but I only want the Knights to keep him on minimum, I get people get attached to legends but we can’t afford to be and successful clubs don’t bank on sentiment.

If the Broncos offer him more than minimum than I wish him the best, I’m not going to sacrifice salary cap and potentially a young up and comer for a 34/35 year old (forget which one). And no recruitment manager worth his salt would do that if we have young and hungry guys with massive talent waiting in reserve grade which we do.

We have to move on eventually and with Hunt, Winter, and Seve we will be fine.

By the sounds of it, it’s simply a matter of not blocking the young guys path to first grade or risking losing them.

It’s a shame, love Gags and don’t want to see him playing anywhere else. Will be hard to replace what he does in defence and particularly his ability to get the ball away to Dom. That combo is so effective, the next person up really need to be able to put Dom away like Gags does

I’m not sure what Gags was on, but retaining all the signings we did this and in POS’s own words the cap is full 27 then unfortunately someone could not be retained. It’s sad if they could make it work I think they resign him. But he is the logical choice, with 3 or 4 guys there to take his position.

In order I think
Hunt, Winter, Votano, McCarthy, Seve, Schiller.

Gagai wasn't as good at 18/19 as he developed into. We cant develop those guys without first grade time.

Gags was a turnstile in defence all the way up to when he returned to us. So looking for a Jr that's a complete package like a guy thats going to go down as a legend of the game? Thats not gonna happen. But we gotta develop these guys.

Thought the Cap was due to increase in 2027, maybe it is anticipated and used up.
Have we signed/extended Best yet.
Sad to lose Gags and Frizell but will be shattered if we lose Best
