Toohey's News

AFL TV deal broke records apparently, with 2 new teams opening up a new time zone with WA surely we have some great leverage especially with Pete threatening to go to 7 and 10 - won't happen.
I think we will get a truckload of cash.

I’m a little worried about how that looks though.
Had heard possibilities of splitting games across multiple channels and streaming services.

Tricky balance between getting the cash, and making viewers/consumers suffer by needing more than one subscription to view all games. I think that would be a bit of a backwards step.

Though it seems to be what a lot of big comps do.

Toohey has now said Ponga’s negotiations were months away from even starting a few days before it was announced he re-signed, and just yesterday said similar about Lucas. He’s also been on the money with some during that period so not trying to say he’s clueless but it seems like there’s been a conscious decision to keep some of the bigger negotiations out of the public eye.

Possibly but it doesn't feel like he doubted they would get those deals done (even with all the rubbish articles from the Sydney media), reading between the lines etc. The Knights know fans will ask on socials etc, so at the very least he can be vague but optimistic.

Sometimes in these situations, it's just easier to not play games with negotiations and just get it done. If it drags out, it can effect the player and their performance. Can't wait for all the talk of Fletcher Sharpe in 12 months time or so...

7 can barely afford to pay their AFL deal, they won’t take the NRL. 10 have money, but they don’t have a news outlet like Nine/Fox. NRL will lose momentum if it goes to Paramount/10.

Very happy with the Lucas signing. He’s certainly got a big future in the game, and I expect we’ll see him in Blue and Green and gold if not this year definitely next year.
And also definitely a club captain one day.
Well done POS , Parr and Holbrook for getting it done. We’ve definitely turned a corner recruiting wise👍

Big rundown on our new attacking attitude - too long to summarise.

Says McEwen could have played in the Saints game and missed the Wests game - but club went the other way.

Says Mel Nonu was enquired about by both Qld and NSW for the under 19s origin, but it turns out he moved from Melbourne to Qld after the age of 13, so he can't play for either.
Seve just missed out on Qld selection.
Winter and Hagan will play for NSW.

Ponga and Lucas expected to be rested for Saints game.
No word on who might be selected.

Says the Knights and the stadium authorities have come to a "favourable" agreement on lost income from the repairs on the stadium. Parr won't comment, saying the agreement is "in confidence".

Marata Niukore looks set to be the only senior recruit for next year at this stage with the roster almost full. Dane Gagai still won't be offered any new deal here. Tyson Frizell could but no sure thing.

Pasami Saulo fractured his foot at training and will miss 8-10 weeks.

Jersey Flegg coach Alex Moore and assistant Joel Edwards were both sacked last week. The Knights currently sit in 11th but it sounds like there was more to it than just on-field results, citing the style of play and treatment of some players as an issue for the Knights hierarchy. Wes Naiqama has taken over as head coach with Adam Blair as assistant.

James Schiller has been told he won't be offered a new deal and has had on-going permission to negotiate elsewhere despite still being signed for next year.

Kyle McCarthy has until the end of the month to make a decision on his player option for next year. There's believed to be interest from elsewhere but Toohey says he's been good in reserve grade and may back himself to stay with Gagai leaving.

Strong mail is Kalyn Ponga and Dylan Lucas will be rested even if they get through Origin unscathed.

Anddddd hopefully that’s all the negativity out of the way for the year.

I can live with Gagai going but I think Frizell is a must re-sign for another year based on impact, leadership and experience for our young forwards.

Saulo can’t seem to catch a break with long term injuries, no pun intended.

Not too fussed on McCarthy or Schiller staying. We have a few better options waiting in the wings in Winter, Hunt, D’arce, Seve etc.

With Saulo going down, it gives way for the Xfactor to come back into the team!
But i assume it will be someone younger
With Saulo out, probably Ponga and Lucas out, puts a pinch on the team this week as that means we lose on of our forwards on the bench and if Lucas out Francis goes to second row so that leaves just Friz and Hopwood, then rest is Graham, hunt, smith, gamble and Schiller
So unless we can get exemption to bring a player in that bench is pretty backs sided and not overly potent

Article says Seve and Hunter join the top 30 next year.
Seve scored a beautiful try last game - just a dummy and a big step and he went over without a hand laid on him.
Hunter is rocks and diamonds - he has some very good games, and some absolute shockers.

POS has a lot more hit's than misses - but I struggle to see either of those guys playing firstgrade next year - maybe 2028.
