It's interesting because Payten is up for a contract renewal.
But there are plenty of wins that have been like that, they are also just as likely to lose to anyone on a bad day.
If you're the Dragons and you're looking to breathe some life back into the team, you're absolutely getting him down there for a chat.
The Cowboys may also just have to offer something, because there isn't really anyone else better available. But obviously you aren't offering a long term deal. 2 finals appearances in six years isn't exactly a glowing endorsement. But when they have looked good it has been promising.
Just not sure if they will reach the next level under him.
Interesting dilemma there isn’t it.
Seemed a few losses away from getting sacked.
Now they’ve got a few wins, it seems odd to not renew your coach if you’re sitting in the 8. Especially when there ain’t much available. Blake Green is there too. Wonder if they’ll see him as Head Coach material.
In saying that, the board would probably want no more than 2 years “extension” to keep a “payout sacking” on the table.
From Paytens perspective, he probably wants 3+ and potentially is in a position to say “you’ve seen me work these years, do you trust me or not?”.
Do you accept 2 years at Cowboys? Or go back to the coaching pool with reputation in tact and try and get 3+ somewhere else when somebody inevitably needs a new coach like Dragons.
They are losing Drinkwater. Coincidently off to Dragons…
Outside looking in, Cowboys don’t look like improving out of sight anytime soon.
Dragons seems pretty willing to make some signings. Imagine they are in a good position to take some risks and release players to negotiate with PNG if it doesn’t work out.
