I was just watching our game on the weekend ... it's the 45th minute, it's six all and we're stuck defending our line ... Marzhew goes for the intercept and runs 95 metres to score. Six minutes later Dom chips and chases to score out of nowhere and give us an 18-6 lead.

Dom ends up scoring a hattrick this week, Greggy got five the week before. Marzhew has 16 line breaks this year, Young 15 (second and third in the NRL). Greg is 7th for run metres in the NRL, Dom is 12th (1936 and 1811 metres, respectively).

This pair, week in week out, gain huge metres for us, but also blow the game open with moments of brilliance. And they are two of the best finishers around when they are presented with a chance.

I've done a poll with a few different options, but for me these two have overtaken Uate and McManus as our best ever winger combo.

Disrespectful to that one season of Uate and Vuna before he left for rugby.

Young and Marzhew is definitely the most exciting and potent in attack. Both scored 20+ in 2023 and are on track to do it again, no other combo has done that.

Didn’t think they played that often together, had a memory of Vuna being injured a lot more in 2010 than he was. But they had around 17 games as a wing combo, so have added them to the poll.

At this rate Dom could well break our top try scoring record in the next few seasons and he would only be 26-27. And Greg could end up second once his new contract expires.

Dom - 61
Greg - 49

Uate - 110
Tahu - 93

Edit originally put the games played instead of the tries scored. Still impressive though 😅

Time and rule changes have altered the game and I do love the Young/Marzhew combination.
Was a huge Uate fan and would have to select Uate/McManus combination as our best.

For scoring tries, Dom and Marz are the number 1 combination.

Uate was as good a try scorer as anyone and McManus was such a great defender and so good under the high ball that hardly anyone bothered to attack that side.

I don’t think there’s much point comparing players from different eras, however, I think there’s a very good chance that in 2 or 3 years time, the answer will clearly be Dom and Greg.

Would love to see Uate and Tahu transported into this team though just out of curiosity.

Was always a big McManus fan too but athletically he probably can’t compare with the others, still a great player though

I went with Uate and Vuna, simply for the nostalgia.

Uate was something else but. He's as strong as Greg but as fast and athletic as Dom. Let's just not talk about Uate's defense.

Which wing pairing has played the most games together?
It’s so difficult to work out, because a few of them played centre as well … but even just counting the games they played together you’d need to manually count, let alone when they were both on the wing. Unless someone has some fancy way of working it out … ?

I wanted to add that stat, but didn’t want to devote the next fortnight while we don’t play working it all out. 😂

Most wingers who had the chance to play beside Mat Gidley averaged close to a try a game - Albert, Tahu even that Beckett guy who was a genuine reserve grader when not being spoon fed tries by Gidley.
I often wonder how many tries Uate would have scored if we'd have kept Matt Gidley for a few more years instead of him having 3 great years for St Helens in the same years Uate was scoring for fun for us.

Fair enough,
I wasn't sure if there was away to work it out.

I voted Aku and Jimmy. Many great memories watching the two of them score plenty of amazing tries. However, if Dom and Greg perform the way they are for the rest of this season and next it will be a no brainer to anoint them as the best wing duo we’ve ever had.
