NRL Round 8 - Knights Vs Panthers - 2:00pm Sunday, 26st April - McDonald Jones Stadium

Penrith were pulling through just about every tackle, while in defence they were up in our face before they even got a run up, often getting pushed backwards. They won the ruck easily that’s the difference, nothing to do with the ref
Just got home another depressing home game . Some parts it was like men playing boys . Nice try from Brown but until then didn't notice him. Cleary might not dominate origin but he certainly on another level for Penrith . We had him , we still don't win today but it's a hell of a lot closer

Absolutely not good enough.

Schiller reminding those of us who wanted to forget why he probably won’t be back in firsts for us and Trey really isn’t standing up. Has a stinging run or tackle in him and spends the next 20 catching breath and chasing his tail. All show and no go so far.

Everyone has a lot of work to do.
How do you miss 8 tackles on the wing lol

That’s awful by Mooney as well. It’s one thing for edges to have some they actually have to make decisions in defence but a front tower missing that many when they’re just running straight at you is bad

Hopefully Schiller is told that he will be released from the last year of his contract at the end of the season if he gets a better offer elsewhere.

I haven't watched the game yet but some stats that stick out to me is 5-2 ruck infringements. Our PTB speed was 3.67 seconds and panthers 2.92 seconds. That alone tells me we are peeling off quicker but getting pinged whilst Penrith can do what they like in the ruck.
Also a few times our players slipped and Sutton called surrender and Penrith slipped and he was calling movement
It’s not much but it’s those little things that speed the ruck up for teams like Penrith and inexperienced teams like us can’t stop the momentum and cause the missed tackles and mistakes

Not the only reason we were so bad but it helps

Also we have now dropped down to near worst defence in the comp again after first 5 weeks being right near top

That says we are getting too fatigued from our own mistakes and letting teams get a stranglehold on us

Honestly, there's a fair chance we would have struggled WITH our best out there.
Why people are surprised we're getting flogged by Penrith at half strength is beyond me
We were equal 3rd for least points conceded after 5 rounds.

We lost Frizell and Lucas and everything immediately fell apart.

We're apparently able to cope with injuries in the spine but cannot tolerate any injuries in the forwards given that even at full strength we're a couple men short.

Makes next year without Frizell a scary prospect. Niukore has big shoes to fill.

Yeah I think if Frizz is still up for it and the end of the year, I’d be offering him another season

I think that ship has sailed, they don't have a spot for him.

The x-factor is a forgotten man, he'd absolutely be getting a run at the moment

Today, missing / replacement

Jones / ESL
Frizell / Hopwood
Lucas / Manuleleua

Ponga / Sharpe
Best / Hunt
Marzhew / Schiller

Aside from an injured Sharpe. We've basically got 6 Cup players in FG. The concession here is that we as Knights supporters are biased about the capabilities of our Cup / Fringe FGrs and are then surprised on game day when we get absolutely belted.

Yeah u could really see the difference between the replacement players today. Think of the ball going to best rather than hunt all day or Frizell coming on and controlling the middle. Or Schiller doing something like making a tackle or catching a ball. First grade is a big step up from reserve. Today it showed, especially can’t do it against the team that exposes all ur flaws.

People say Lucas was having a quiet year - but he was making just under 40 tackles a game, missing just over 1 a game at 96.6% efficiency and averaging 57 fantasy points a game - second only to Ponga.
Manuleleua has a big future, but if you take out his 10 minute game, he's making 29 tackles a game and missing 6.5, which is a massive difference.
Not to mention Best is our best defender in the backline, and Hunt is OK, but way behind Best.
I'll even say Marz is an upgrade on Schiller - never thought I'd call him an upgrade on anyone. (in defence)
