2026 Season

They shot themselves in the foot. And I’m enjoying watching them dance around on one leg trying to stop the bleeding.

I think they had a really good balance, good principles, and that decision to bring in Galvin, for whatever reason really stunk up the place.

Think Sexton had really come to be a decent half, or at least one that suited their style of play. Was playing great. It wouldn’t surprise me if morale dropped a little with the way he was treated and cast aside for the shiny toy Galvin. Mahoney may be a you know what, but he was great for them as well, also treated poorly towards the end. Curious how he is perceived by his teammates.

Something is going on there. Curran I thought was a target I would have been interested in us exploring at one point last season, but he has dropped off as well. Sam Hughes also looked like he had some potential. Kikau has a good game every 3 weeks.

Didn’t watch too much of the game last night. Saw Thomson take a decent carry/run. Stats looked OK 12 runs for 120-130m, 11 for 80m last week. Mooney took 10 for 97m last week. 7 for 49m the week before. (I don’t think Mooney’s benefit to us is his carries - unfortunately).

Anyway. Hope Sexton kills it at Perth.

Totally, removing Sexton sent them off a cliff. That said, their attack wasnt nearly as bad as it is now.

This season they literally look like the Knights in 2025. They look lethargic, under pressure, unclear on their roles and generally subpar, even defensively they've dropped off. The Dogs supporters might be a little confused as to what is happening but as a Knights supporter, Ive seen this exact thing happen before - once the attack breaks down the 'off the ball' stuff eventually follows because a lack of belief creeps and players naturally start to question if the 1% efforts off the ball are still worth it. That's kinda where the Dogs are at currently

That’s exactly it and why I couldn’t get on board with anyone whose take last year was, it’s the player’s fault, they should keep turning up anyway, they owe the fans, no excuses, blah blah blah.

The reality is that this is a sport where players are putting themselves in harm’s way physically and often even when players are consciously going into games with good intentions - which I think they usually are - it’s no good if the subconscious isn’t aligned with that. It’s like war with swords and shields in the ancient world, few things mattered more than the psychological state of your men.

When the belief and confidence in what you’ve been doing in training and in the man beside you is 100% there, the little extra efforts and the intent in everything you do happens as if by pure instinct. When it’s not there, you have to keep reminding yourself to front up and do your job. So everything is a little slower, a little softer, etc. And a little bit is a lot in this sport if the other team has all the confidence and belief.

Players aren’t robots. AOB isn’t someone who brings confidence at this point, whether or not he ever was. He brings doubt, anxiety. You can’t have that at your footy club.

Id really really like to know what it is that AOB does or thinks he is doing that so reliably produces this same set of results in the teams he coaches.

Is it so reliable in its effects it should be studied. It seems to strange and cripple a team in the most unique of ways

To be fair he must interview well😂& he has been to four grand finals !!
 
I support the Knights and whichever team is the underdog, but I'm no fan of Gus and how he has misused his overblown power in the league, Galvin being one of the recent examples of that...so quite happy to see it continue to go pear-shaped for the Dogs.

And though I still wish AOB & Leo the best, I think it's funny that so many Dogs fans are blaming them for their woes when they should be looking elsewhere...Penrith eventually realised it.
 
It's easy to fall for the idea that teams respond after a coach is sacked. Manly did, but statistically this is what typically happens. Hope for the Dragon's sake, they can fight back in the 2nd.
 
Lots of Dragons are doing hop steps before engaging the line, as if they're suddenly going to take off on foot or the other... which totally works when the Roosters are rushing up in a solid line and are completely fresh after having done little to no tackling. lol

IDK, maybe run hard and earn the right to try some razzle dazzle lads.

And if my memory serves me correctly, Galvin left the Tigers as he believed he would be better coached at the Dogs than Benji at the Tigers.

He was only ever going to be an interim appointment, they want to completely clean house but you can't really do that mid- season. Expect everyone on the coaching staff to get the boot in September
 
Joking....be surprised if it's not Hornby * starting next season with a completely fresh staff as well. Feel sorry for Young, though, they looked even less interested than they were under Flannagan. Some of the senior players should be embarrassed.

Loko is quite the unit, he makes Luciano look small.

* Although Ben's best option might be to keep working under Bennett at the Rabbits...the bloke has to retire sometime...right?
