Recruitment And Retention Discussion

Maybe you're right, but he basically called Newcastle out in his interview saying the family I want to be close to is in Taree. I think we're the front runners, it's just up to POS to get the deal done now.

Oh I didn't see the interview, fingers crossed he comes here.

However money talks I guess

The Wahs aren’t exactly flush with outside backs, why not give them Schiller or Kepoa he’s from Auckland and Jones as well

Anyone else perturbed by the comments from media outlets overstating our losses. In the recent Gus Gould podcast Mat Thompson thought Jack Hetherington would be the signing of the season. Admittedly Gus only spoke well of Jack’s character, but I’ve seen other outlets harp on about how Thompson was a leading pack enforcer and KPP was the most athletic back rower in the comp. It’s like no one has watched them play in the last 2 years. They’d mostly go on to talk about how our pack had no go forward last year but never put two and two together.
Just wondered if anyone else had picked up on the disconnect between the commentary to date.
I have found that external “commentary” is very bias or comes from a place where the”experts” know bugger all about players, particularly our players. They are empty vessels just flapping their jaws for clickbait purposes.
My mental health has shown significant improvement since I stopped listening or watching any Fox “experts”.
I play Fox on mute and enjoy the games.

I really hope this is a team that let's every word that doubts them burn into them. Cos they legitimately now have the talent to really make these people look very stupid, if they decide to aim up as a collective every week. Let us not forget two of these so called experts thought the Raiders would win the spoon last year. If not last year it may have been 2024. In short I want to see some bravado and arrogance that gets under the skin of people.

I’m confused about what’s going on with Mitch Barnett. Is it, he’s released for 2027, but they’d consider a player swap for 2026? Or is it that he’s released for 2027 but only if the get a player swap? Legit can’t parse what the Warriors ****head is saying.

It’s the least compassionate compassionate release ever if they want a player swap for 2027 to go with it.

I can’t make much sense of it, either.

Wording in the Warriors announcement was that he will be granted a release, not that he already has, so guess you could read that as "he's free to negotiate and once a deal is struck that all parties agree to we'll go through with releasing him." Who knows, though.

I think originally the Warriors thought he'd go to Newcastle but apparently once the Broncos got involved, they started making conditions for his release.

Don’t get the people’s hatred of PVL, I like him he has done great to grow the game and increase revenue, more players are making more than ever, fans are up both on tv and In stadiums, etc.

Much better than those losers grant and that other loser.

He is straight forward and will do what he needs to do and I guess lots of people now a days can’t handle that but meh to them

My understanding of the VERY POORLY worded article was that they were releasing him from his final year of his contract 2027, on compassionate grounds.
They would consider a swap deal to let him “leave 12 months earlier”, eg 2026.

But the wording of “12 months earlier” is rubbish when they don’t provide a context. Is it 12 months early from his contract? Or 12 months earlier from the 12 months they released him from?

I had a few Wahs fans ‘explain’ this to me after I raised a point that they can’t claim goodwill and release him on compassionate grounds, only to demand a player because “it’s a business”.
Think there’s a Barnett Quote in the article I read that he’s happy/prepared to stay til the end of this season.

Edit: so I just re-read the article. And I’m not convinced these Wahs fans have it right. But who knows.

“Barnett will return to Aus, for family reasons, at the end of the year after Warriors granted him a family compassionate grounds release from final year of his contract.”

“While the warriors are prepared to let him go 12 months earlier given his child’s medical requirements and family support, they want something in return from a club that attempts to sign him”.

I feel like “while” makes it sound linked to the first paragraph. Remove “while” and it seems like ‘these needs are immediate and we’d let him go now if we get a decent swap offer’.
