The pre-season 2026 thread

Gotta laugh that NRL.com has Brodie Jones Mat Croker and Tom Cant all ahead of Pasami Saulo in our best 17
I love it. People are gonna learn, we havent been in this position in many years but I recko the Knights are gonna surprise next year.

We'll likely eventually get beat by depth and injuries but on our day I reckon that team full strength will be able to compete with anyone

I reckon the knights will surprise 'this' year, a lot of potential. Sharpe sounds like he may do a great job at number 7 eventually as well, when Ponga comes back wouldn't be surprised if Sharpe makes the number 7 jersey his own.

I reckon he will go down as our best ever 7 and in years to come will make a poddy with Brad Fitler called "Freddy and the 28th".

Article in yesterdays Tele on Knights, listing those moved on and new signings as well as listing best 17, sample,
5 Marzhew, 6 Sharpe, 7 Brown, 10 Saulo, 12 YES 12 Cant, 13 Frizell, bench Smith, Mooney, McEwen and Croker.
Lots of variations to best side from those so called experts

I’m seeing two most likely outcomes in the spine.
1. Ponga
6. Brown
7. Sharpe
9. Crossy*
14. Smith

Or
1. Ponga
6. Brown
7. Smith
9. Crossy*
Sharpe ???

*Crossy will only play 40mins max (20 start of each half) at hooker then shift to lock.

Aside from the fact that Sharpe would make an average halfback (but a decent 6), he'd never find himself there unless Smith was unavailable.

There's very little about Sharpe's game that lends itself to playing 7. I'm yet to even see him fit neatly into a block play without customising something on the fly. Halfback requires method, process and big picture thinking. That's why Cogger would make a better halfback despite having a tenth the physical talents of Sharpe.

We want Sharpe running.

Yeah I haven’t seen it either. And he’s been mainly training at FB from what I’ve heard. So he hasn’t even been doing reps in the halves. It would be an unorthodox halves paring with Sharpe and Brown. The closest it could be to is the Melbourne spine with a Smith as our 9, and two running halves. Hey if I’m proven wrong, and it works great. But seems a risk to me.

Holbrook *might* try Sharpe and Brown in the halves at some stage for some reason, but I doubt it'll be his preferred set up and I doubt it'll last very long, if we see it at all.

Sharpe will either start at fullback in Ponga's absence, start on the wing, or play 14, which is likely to be some custom utility role with the new extended bench

Will be funny seeing Sharpe vs Purdue at halfback in Vegas 😅

If Sharpe somehow takes the 7 jersey and holds onto it, it'll likely mean that he is nailing the role. If that happens I'd be stoked.

But its just so remote. Why would Holbrook select Sharpe (who couldn't displace Cogger at 7 and who's only competition for 6 was Gamble) from Smith who's played 50 FG games for the Roosters most of which in the halves and many at halfback.

They are pretty close, the conjecture is around sharpe in the 7. Is Marzhew still in our top 17? And I probably try and fit Pasami in on the bench. Although he made be injured still? Probably for Cant. He is a work horse but Pasmi could have more impact.

Pasami hasn’t been injured since pre season training began and will 100% be in the team imo
He is better then Croker and miles better then Cant or Jones
