2026 Recruitment And Retention

Seems odd that we are crying out for a hooker when we have let a few go, Randall, Levi, Brailey, Starling along with sometimes Watson and Mann.
I know not a top liner amongst but good backups
Still have Crossland but he seems better at 13 but might have to get used to 9, what’s happened to our Juniors?

Am I the only person who saw Healey play last night? 😂

Apparently he's 23. Came from the Sharks, stuck behind Brailey. Went to the Warriors and is now stuck behind Egan.

Healey has played 6 NRL games. Has been stuck behind two of the best hookers in the comp. You watch him play last night and he showed everything we've missed at 9 since Bedsy left. And showed it in about 60 mins of footy. Havent seen enough of him to know if that was by far his best game or if he has defensive deficiencies or something but based on last night's game alone Id take him ahead of Wishart at 9.

Healey would come for pennies too

He was very good and eager in attack. Haven’t really seen any of his game except for last night but was impressed.

Yeah he’s a good mover out of dummy half but he’s not tiny like a lot of other quick hookers so that’s promising. Given we know POS had a crack at Da Silva, likes Sandon there, and is interested in Wishart, clearly the club is after an attacking 9 rather than someone whose best asset is defence. So you’d think he’d be on the radar.

I can’t say I watch the Wahs closely enough to rate Healey’s defence but being 6’1” and 90kg, shouldn’t be as much of a speed bump as some of the little fellas running around.

The only thing is the Wahs have him until the end of 2027 and Egan has his concussion issues (on top of not being the robust 9 going in other ways), so there’s a good chance they’re already in good standing there in terms of keeping Healey. They might be able to sell him on playing 30 off the bench next year. They’d be smart to reduce Egan’s workload anyway.

Sandon is the target because he was granted permission to negotiate, no finagling involved to go and talk to him in the first place. Wishart next because he’s approaching his prime, getting antsy about starting opportunities, and honestly Melbourne might need him off the books (don’t know if anyone saw but Harry Grant has started agitating for a pay rise). Healey maybe just in the “we can’t get him” basket.

Side note on Sandon: The Raiders were definitely very interested in him - they apparently aren’t ecstatic with how Ethan Sanders is tracking so far and want competition for that 7 jersey next year. Just priced out it compared to us and North Queensland.

Important data point I reckon given their strike rate is very good on spine signings. They can never get the biggest stars but have had so much success with the ‘next tier down’ strategy - either guys stuck behind marquee players (Charnze, Weekes, Sanders) or poaching junior Origin or Aus/NZ schoolboys from talent-rich systems who are considered very good but maybe not the very best prospects at that club (Strange, Stewart). And they apparently see Sandon as being in that same basket.

Would Soni Luke or Summerton from Penrith be worth a look or not rated? Havnt seen a great deal of either to have an opinion

Nope

Summerton is a nsw cup standard 9 and Soni Luke sort of had some potential few years ago but hasn’t played any good at all in his chances so Penrith been using Schneider at 9 over him

Luke had a chance last week and he made penriths attack super clunky and sideaays

We already had one dummy half like that this year that raiders bought off us

Ahh copy yeah pass

Healy has been better than Egan this year. I would love to get him here. He's got a big future

I'm not convinced the Knights have had a good Head of Performance in several years.

Those boot camps that they do are stupid anyway.
You say that but there was an article yesterday or today about how Canberra's boot camp at the start of the year brought them together. I think we have been in poor shape for a few years and the players clearly arent connected and playing for each other week in week out. So many reports of us still having a party culture and it does show.

Just look at that article.

I was harsh before on the army camps. You're right the culture is the bigger problem and the club has definitely had a loser culture for a long time.
