2026 Recruitment And Retention

Thanks,
Obviously he has played off the bench so would be good to know his average mins.
85m a game isn't bad playing off the bench.
96% tackle efficiency is great.

More experience and age will do him good. Hopefully he becomes a great starter for us.

Is there any news on Newcastle being interested in Davvy Moale from the rabbits? He turned down a 2yrs contract and it on market???

Starting Forward pack of
Jacob Saifiti
Trey Mooney
Jermaine McEwen
Dylan Lucas

Bench
Tyson Frizell
Psami Saulo
Davvy Moale*
Reserve
Thomas Cant
Mat Croker

Peter Hola
Cody Hopwood
Brodie Jones
Elijah Salesa-Leaumoana
Francis Manuleleua

The depth chart looks strong and considering the reserve players had most game time this year

Designed for fantasy, but pretty good filters to search by “starting” or “off bench” or “minimum of x minutes”.

Jake Arthur = poor man's Liam Sutton

Liam Sutton is the form player in the Qld cup and qld NRL sides are lining up to give him a pre-season.

I was thinking the other day that I could name a full side of guys who spent years in our reserves putting in good performances and turned out to be NRL players as soon as they went somewhere else.
It’s crazy Billy, that kid has light lit up the Q Cup. Looks a completely different player. It says more about the club than the player. TBF I don’t think he was given any opportunity here with the likes of Hastings and Cogger preferred, when they knew the ceiling of those 2 already. Imagine the running threat of Pryce and Sutton if anyone in the place had a brain😂

My biggest gripe is that Sutton wasn't even given a chance. Not a single game. All the while, Cogger was treated as a Premiership winning signing alongside Dally M contender Tyson Gamble.

Sutton was a great athlete but not much of a playmaker when he arrived here several years ago.
I think he got typecast as not a dominant playmaker, so we let other guys take that role for years, while he was learning kicking and passing skills off guys like Dobson and Hastings, but not really using them.
When he went to Qld cup they must have told him to go nuts and use all his skills as much as he liked, and suddenly he's running over 200 metres, kicking like Matt Burton, setting up tries with his passing - doing everything.
He obviously needed a change.

Not saying Liam Sutton isn't a future first grader, but it's worth noting the standard in the QCup has been declining a lot. The Storm have had Pezet training and playing with the Bears for a reason, and there's also a reason why they will now be fielding a Storm reserve grade team in NSW Cup as of 2026. When the club which has made better use of QCup as a development tool better than any other club, comes to the conclusion it's no longer a great environment for their players, I think that's worth paying attention to.

And the fact that the Broncos and dolphins have 3 clubs each they use as feeders, cowboys use 2 , so there is less flow back for some sides than here where each NRL side has 1 nsw cup to feed back there excess players while they are spreading over 3

That’s a great point, I actually watched the game when Pezet played Sutton about a month ago, you wouldn’t think one was being chased for big $ by a club that let the other guy go that’s for sure, and the same age. Sutton had 5 try assists that game and beat the Falcons by 40. It struck me that the decision makers at home either have no idea or have blinkers on. Didn’t the Q Cup team win the state champs last year?

Didn't realise Jonah had also played for the Falcons this year, that's odd hahaha. Looks like Jonah went really well up there this year overall though anyway.

Either way if we're looking for a half that destroys reserve grade, Sandon Smith has 54 try assists in his 44 games at that level. Was smashing it from the age of 19.
