Sack Adam O’Brien

Matty Johns lol. We went with AOB who had only been an assistant and never been a head coach of a team at any level.

We can top that though and go with Matty Johns who hasn't been an NRL assistant coach or a head coach in the NRL at any level. Brilliant lol.

Please, I beg. if AOB goes, lets not pick up a rookie coach this time.

This club needs to move forward, we need a coach that is an experienced campaigner that can move the club in the direction of top 4 berths. Once we are in a position to challenge for top 4, and can maintain that sort of performance with injuries taken in to consideration, we could then go with a rookie who has done the groundwork, and just needs to take the helm of a club ready to pounce.

But a rookie coach coming in to this club as it is now, with the problems in the club all over the shop, I just don't see that as a good option. Talk about chucking the rookie straight in to the deep end, with sharks, and piranha.

I don't get the talk about the club resigning him was bidding against no one.

I am sure the reason why the club decided to resign him wasn't because they were scared some one would pinch him. But so there was stability at the club after that win streak, and there is value in that.

Obviously in hindsight it's turned out to probably be the wrong move, but not because we were bidding against no one.

Young player will be Dominic Young hype, Gagai and Frizell re-signing, McDermott becoming duo head coach with AOB

The old player was club not taking up a 400k option on Gagai and negotiating for a cheaper deal.
Young player was club still trying to keep Cooper Votano from going to Melbourne.
Coach thing was about Newcastle Wests wanting to replace Rick Stone with Adam Betteridge next year.

No issue with that, but he was already signed for 2024. Did we need to also need to lock in 2025, 2026 and 2027? The contract was just way too long, and with no way of getting out of it other than paying out the whole thing.

No, probably not, they probably jumped the gun after half a season of some of the best football Newcastle had played in a long time and at a minimum should have had some performance clauses in there more than another year if we dont finish in the bottom 4.

But I still don't get the bidding against no one talk.

"Bidding against no one" is almost a buzzword at this point, people said it about Dylan Brown too.

We were bidding against someone! Parramatta!

True, I believe this comes from the idea that not many people know what “bidding against no one” actually means and knowing how to identify it truely.

I can’t remember the media mentioning that other clubs were interested. But I think it’s a bit different with coaches. But I’m more of the belief that no other club was wanting AOB has a head coach.
