2026 Recruitment And Retention

KPP is a good forward but his talents don't align with our style of play. We use almost none of his unique tricks. The Raiders however, would. I reckon he'd look like a million bucks there on an edge. That'd be their pitch to him, too.

I reckon he'll leave, not just because they're probably offering more money. They've also got young Nicholson who is an English lad.

We need a middle. The Raiders are definitely where we find one. I'd go Smithies. Mooney appears 'talented' but doesn't affect the game as much as others, like Smithies imo

KPP is all potential atm. But time is running out for him to show it with us. Maybe as said above by Les, we are just not a fit

Agree that KPP would probably go better in Canberra. Smithies I can imagine replacing Elliott as the forum’s new whipping boy though. As honest as they come but for me the main impact he has on the game is that he gets beaten in contact a lot by better athletes.

I don’t see them moving Nicholson or Young to the bench to fit KPP in though and I don’t see where they find $700k. Wouldn’t think he’d leave here to go to Canberra for the same money we offer

The Raiders already have a pommy backrower how many do they need? Is there some requirement that the Raiders must chase all off contract Knights players?

I’d prefer to keep KPP for a reasonable price. I don’t think he’s even began to reach his full potential. Plus, it’s really going to annoy the **** out of me watching him play for someone else and have him offloading at will with support runners every game.

By all reports they were ready to drop racks for Thompson so they do have money but yeah Nicholson is proving to be a really good player and Young is really good for them not to mention they have Simi and Hosking as well and Noah Martin who was in the u19s origin.

So unless KPP wants to move from a starting position here to warming the bench for them it just doesn’t make sense from his pov.

Unless it all comes down to money

Matty Nicholson's work rate/motor isn't great, Sticky probably wants to bring him off the bench. Move Hudson Young to lock when he comes on maybe.

if I’m remember right (probably not) by 2027 the Knights could claim veteran dispensation on KPs contract and get $300k of dispensation so if we re-sign him for 1.3/1.4 we can knock $300k off that when he enters his ninth year.

Is that about right or am I misremembering?.

You're right but that allowance is across the top 30, not per player, and every team qualifies for it, because it can also be paid to anyone who's come through pathways and made their debut at the club. Eg Braddy, J Saf, a few others can also be paid out of it. So everyone just includes it when they talk about what the total salary cap is.

Geez I didn’t realize it was quite that pointless.
