NRL Round 6 - Knights V Tigers - McDonald Jones Stadium - 4:05pm Sunday 13th April

I think he walks into the 6 jersey at Penrith, Roosters, Raiders, Warriors and Dolphins. He’s much better than both of the Dragons halves too.
He will be our reserve grade captain next year. Don't get me wrong rate him as a competitor . But he won't win a premiership

It’s not that hard to find a 14 though, and personally I don’t think he was playing at a level where he wasn’t replaceable by a younger, cheaper option. Remember we also had Kurt Mann playing a similar role at the time. Would we have kept him instead? Just my view, maybe it is complete nonsense.
IDK why they let Kurt go, I assumed it was related to his body given how tough he plays but I can't imagine at the time he was cheaper than Pheonix.

I don’t think anyone is saying this? Phoenix is great! I just don’t rate him at halfback. He’s a senior member of the team now, an international. very well respected and will be a regular for years to come.

Haven’t even seen anyone say AOB should be sacked …
Go and have a look at last week's game thread.

This game we need the attack to fire.

4 games for 42 points is appalling.

If we can keep the D tight, and the attack can start finishing off chances, surely we are good enough to see the Tigers off at home.

We need an alternate game plan that when were getting smashed to just 5 1 off the hooker and make 30m in a set and then a 30m kick at the end of it. Stop dropping balls would help, and for our forward pack to go after the opposition like the Dogs did to us.

There is no alternate game plan. If they are gassed, they are gassed. The dogs game a lot went against us, including us. Not going to win games with that sort of possession stat no matter what game plan the coach comes up with.

The alternate game plan is....stop dropping balls.

They werent gassed in the first 20 and still played like this. There is always alternatives.

But than I can't see any other side where Gamble is a first team starter either? Crossland says himself he is a hooker now! So a reluctant half with a raw five eighth against Galvin & Laui . A big ask?.
It’s the best option for us at present.

Hastings, our only other option for halfback at present is slow and unpopular with his treamates.

Running out JSaf gone, 1 minute Schiller gone.

1st set got to the 40, Crossland late to the play the ball and got a bad kick away, handed field position straight to the Dogs. This is when the Dogs most energised.

2nd set - Marz knocks on 2nd tackle on our 20.

3rd set - Made it out to the 45m mark. In dogs next set we allowed an offload and they went on a 3 tackle blitz. And got a 6 again. We knocked it on at the end of that set,

4th set - Started on out 10 from scrum. We got a penalty tackle 1. Finished the next set on their 15, attacking chance through Ponga, Best wrapped up on their Try line.

Thats the first 10. Not sure what more could be asked from that 10, scoring chance. Competed with them except for that one offload that lead to a blitz.

Second 10 minutes.

Dogs made it out to the 45. Kicked.

1st set of this 10 minutes - Got a penalty. End of that period with the ball, Ponga chips to the corner to secure a line dropout.

2nd set of 6 from the dropout - If Leo gives it to Friz we are in, but didn't. Croker drops it on their line next tackle.

3rd set, caught it on our 10, Marz drops it straight away but no knock on miraculously, then Cant says "hold my beer" and drops it on our 30.

From that dogs went 6 again, penalty offside, and in to touch. Great D.

Next set Crossland kicked from dummy half early in the set. Which resulted in the Dogs starting the next set in good field position on their 30.

Next set started on our 10, our worst set of the first 20, kicked from our 25m after some poor hitups. Dogs in great field position again.

At the end of this set - Crighton puts that kick in from over the touch line to secure drop out. And thats the first 20 minutes.

The Knights for the most part competed well with the dogs in the first 20. Generated 2 good scoring chances, probably should have had a try and conversion on the board.

Given OB has been critical of them trying to go wide too early without earning the right to, wouldn't make any sense for them to spend the first 20 throwing the ball around. This was exactly the first 20 OB would have wanted from them, get in the grind. A few missed chances and some bad handling marked that first 20. Not sure what other game plan you would want to be honest? We competed with 1st place to this point in an arm wrestle.

Cogs dislocated his finger just here as well, didn't go back in all game, can't have help him play well at all.

Did you not just write within the first 20 mins we made 15m in a set? Schiller and Saf going early didn’t hurt our first half energy, we made interchanges hurt us big time in second 40. In that set we’re getting smashed our halves should understand this and use deception to take the focus off the yardage players. But no across picks it up to player every man and his dog knows is getting it and the dogs pump him. If we want to be a top 4 team and win comps we have to be better. And playing the way we did we never will be.
You can put lipstick on the pig but it’s still a a pig 🐷

That 15m set was the very last set of the 20 minute period. Thats a stretch using that 1 set to describe the entire first 20 minutes.

Again, what game plan did you want to see from them first 20 other than arm wrestle which we were competing in. Other than the halves should do some magic tricks and poof we are on their 30?

First 20, we had energy, competed well, generated 2 scoring chances and 2 line droputs, held them out from sustained sets on our line. I mean thats a win for mine against 1st place.
