Toohey's News

Frizzell, KPP, Hetherington and Elliott are no certainties to be here next year.

Sua and Thompson are gone.

The only young guy I think is 100% ready by next year is McEwen.

In short, we need Crokes and we need Tyrone Thompson and at least 1 and maybe 2 or 3 more for 2026.
I’d go for

Josiah Pahulu as a main prop next to J-saf, and go hard for him it was reported the Bulldogs had him but nothing has been announced yet and that was a while back so I’d still go for him extremely hard as a Thompson replacement

Wiremu Greg a pretty good bench prop that should come cheap

Jacob Alick-Wiencke to play the second row/lock position as a bench player

Than I’d rely on McKewn, Hopwood, Thompson and Cant for depth

So Josiah would cost the most but he holds big potential and the other should be fairly cheap especially Greg

That way you replace Leo, Elliot, Hetherington with three very capable guys and you won’t block development since they would be next man up but that’s just me

Greg is on 450k at Parra. Jacob is vomit. Josiah is really an unknown at this stage. As for guys I'd sign I'd have to actually sit down and watch some games that I don't usually watch to get an eye on talented guys stuck at clubs.

Completely agree. If McEwen ain't a mainstay of our 17 for the next 10 years it'll be because he was pinched by another team

From the highlights Manulelua strongly makes me think of Spencer Leniu. That sort of power running bowling ball forward. I'll be surprised if he's more than 2 years away.
Love this profile of prop. They’re the get off your seat versions of the big men. Not that he’s the same as Spencer, but Danny Wicks was an exciting prop. When the Safs were on they were exciting. Thought JSaf looked nice and punchy last weekend.

Jsaf is coming off a great year in his terms where he averaged the most running metres in his career and is tackle efficiency was the third best of his career, he is at a stage now where he can go on and be the dominant leader he was thought to be or he can fall like his brother.

I’m clearly hoping for him to turn it on.

Says we can afford Brown with Hastings and Brailey money and says it's worth it for us, but seems to say we would be paying overs for him.

Says Gamble has been having cortisone injections for his back for a few months and will be out for 4 to 6 weeks following surgery.

Elliott is over his calf injury, but is expected to sit out this week.

Taj Annan is injured and Francis Manulelena is serving a suspension he got from the first NSW cup trial.

Mentions Gow getting a hat trick to take his try tally to 12 from 5 games. Says Gow has run in 100 metre sprint events that were won by sprint sensation Gout Gout.

@Billy whats the drum on Gow? Thanks for your insights as always mate
I assume he is an O'Sullivan signing.
All I can find about him is he played Union for a top school in Sydney and has been an athlete with international standing, so I assume he has been drug tested.
His best time for 100 metres is 10.92 as a 17 year old.
I think his 5 games of SG Ball are his only games of league. In his games he scored 1,3,4,1,3 tries. All his tries are the same - his opposite number thinks they have him covered, but when he starts running - they don't have him covered - he's too fast to catch.
Not very tall, but solid and strong and fast.

Bit of Bradman about Gow.

10.9 per 100m was the time Uate was touted as having ran at that age.
I saw Uate in his first game. He played Ball and hadn't bulked up to play League yet, so was still at his top sprinting pace.
I thought he was a South African kid who had been there the year before and I was thinking he had grown 4 inches taller in a year.
He was playing alongside centre Callan Richardson, who was very, very fast.
I think it was Luke Walsh who put in a long kick which was meant for Richardson to run for and Richardson was at top pace already - Uate flashed past Richardson and won the race to the ball by 10 metres to score his first try. I thought I was looking at the new Martin Offiah - but he was never that fast again after putting on 20kg to play League.

Says the Brown signing means Will Pryce will be forced out for next year and that "high priced forwards" KPP, Elliott and Hetherington will all have to take big pay cuts to stay.

Says Seb Sua has been released.

Says Sua's replacement, Wil Sullivan, was spotted at Knights training this week.

Says Malachi Smith has been released from a development deal to join the Raiders - continuing their obsession with Knights hookers.

Steve Simpson thinks Dylan Lucas should be considered for NSW selection.

Steve Simpson has had 3 wins in a row with his Mats side and has signed a 120kg prop from Qld who will fly down for games for the rest of the season.

Blake Green had a part in "selling" the club to Dylan Brown by explaining what the halves structure will be.

Ian Bourke is coming out of retirement to help Ron Griffiths with the Warriors NRLW side - but only attending all their games and giving advice to Griffiths based on that.

Interested to see this Wil Sullivan, might sneak into Cup team this week if not next week.

Good on Seb, though he’s going to a very forward dominated side, so it’ll be interesting to see how they go. Phins becoming the new raiders of former knights. Donaghue, Dsaf, Keeley now Seb.

Out of Elliot, Hethro and KPP, would like to keep one of them, preferably KPP but it’d be a huge drop in money. Elliot for two more years be perfect. Pryce on 400k is just mental.

Bit dissapointing about Malachi, thought having dummy half depth was a good thing. Hopefully we can get KPP to drop his asking price.

On the hooker situation - people forget that Jacob Davis was ahead of Matt Arthur at Parramatta before suffering some form of injury.
He came back to the Knights last year and wasn't setting the world on fire till the very end of the reserve grade season, when he started looking good. Last week he was on fire as starting hooker in reserve grade. He got 71 fantasy points and ran for 111 metres, which is big metres for a hooker in 51 minutes. Davis was considered a future firstgrader at Parra before injury.
We have also picked up the two Hoad brothers who played off the bench in reserve grade and Flegg last week and are 9 and 14 in Flegg this week, and both were impressive. O'Sullivan brought them from the Dolphins.
We also have Taj Moore, Matt McEwen and Diesal Hagan fighting it out in SG Ball. I think McEwen has his nose in front there.
Malachi Smith was OK, but I think i'd rate all those guys as good or better from what I saw last week - especially Davis, McEwen and the older Hoad brother.
