One of the best recruitment policies is to look for guys who are of first grade standard but are stuck behind guys who aren't going anywhere in their spot. Have a look at half backs at Penrith or fullbacks at the Roosters and give them an opportunity. The right guy not playing first grade at their club could flourish given an opportunity at yours, and generally, they will be pretty cheap.

Just out of interest, I put together this squad of players who have been named 18-21 for their clubs this week. Players who could be willing to come to a club for a first grade opportunity. I chose these players as if I was putting together the first squad of an expansion franchise. This squad would probably come together for under $6mill? If this is the base squad, maybe could lòok at a bigger signing or three? As an aside, if Penrith wanted to keep Dylan Edwards, I'd go for their understudy instead. I'd also go hard for Jack Hetherington and Nat Butcher who are both regularly outside their clubs top 17.

Fullbacks:
Dylan Edwards
Tex Hoy

Wingers:
Christian Tuipulotu
Jason Saab
Bryson Goodwin
Jesse Arthurs

Centre:
Brad Takairangi
Braydan Wiliame
Esan Marsters
Tevita Funa

5/8:
Matt Burton
Brandon Wakeham

Halfback:
Kyle Flanagan
Jake Clifford

Lock:
Egan Butcher
Josh Curran

Second Row:
Billy Burns
Briton Nikora
Brodie Jones
Shaun Blore

Prop:

Things going terribly for him at the Warriors … seventh loss in a row coming up and it’s a shellacking from Souths. The gains in unity and mental strength they made last year under Payten are long gone.

Think he’ll be unemployed again very soon.
