Recruitment And Retention Discussion

For what it is worth, on the LEVELS podcast with Mase and Justin Horo, Mase believes we should be pushing for top four. And if you take off the blinders we have quality depth. Another point they raise.
Yeah watched last night, very surprised as I still think about mason hating on the knights. But they instilled a bit of belief that our team is stacked with the exception of halves.

Sounds like everyone if very on board with trying sharpe at 5/8 and needing a half to kick well next to him.

We have a lot of good players, but if you could have a 2-5 as good as ours and Tyson Gamble at 7, or maybe only one good wing/centre and Mitchell Moses at 7, you’d take option two every time.

Absolutely agree, and that's what I said in the season prediction thread. Plus a decent draw to start the year which can get us off to a good start and build momentum.

It's just frustrating that we lack that quality half to really unlock things.

Just makes you wonder if we didn't bank so hard on pezet if we could have gotten a hunt or trindle. However unlikely

There's talk that Edwin Ipape wants to look at an NRL contract as he is off contract at seasons end in the SL. Has been arguably one of/if not the best hooker in the comp over here for a couple years now, could be used as a great genuine impact 9 or run on 9 at the drop of a hat with Crossland filling the other role IMO. Is this an option for us with Brailey's contract being up at seasons end? Would get him for a fraction of Bailey's price as well I'd Imagine and only aged 25 averaging 23 games a season with an average of 12 tries a season, lots of potential for whatever club picks him up in either comp

Hooker is probably the last position we need to look at.

Trindle was never leaving the shire and Hunt was adamant he wanted to go back to the Bronco's.

We offered Pezet double his wage, starting 7 in his home town.

I still don't understand his logic, when Hughes has another 4-5 years in him and Wishart is heir apparent for Munster, so best case scenerio his likely to get a bench spot in 2-3 years regularly.

If the blokes that dumb we truly dodged a bullet!

Yeah, I think Matt Arthur is going to be great for us. He debuted against us and scored a try off the bench (from memory), and I thought he looked a real prospect. If he goes as well as hoped, the issue might be keeping him when his father comes back to the NRL to coach the Perth Bears.

With Pezet, I agree, bullet dodged. Whatever his reasoning was he passed up millions and a genuine shot at his own first-grade team to run, to wait for an opportunity behind Hughes, Munster and Wishart.

I don’t reckon Arthur snr would want any more sons playing under him, after Jake copped so much abuse.

Listening to Mason in that podcast is starting to get me bullish on our season.

If we had a clear stand out 7 eg Moses or even Fogarty, I'd like our chances for a top 4 spot.

Thing is "pushing" top 4 really isn't that difficult. 1st and 2nd are generally stand outs that break away, 3rd and 4th are usually up for contention late in the season.

Making top 8 you just need to win 1 more game than lose and it's up to points differential.

Pushing top 4 really just takes consistent good football, consistent effort from the outset and keep it going.

You get plenty of chances against struggling teams and teams around your level.

We really should be pushing top 4 this season.

Other teams will think the same, but there are teams that do it and teams that talk about it. We've been talkers so far under OB.

If we make the top 4 with our halves, despite how ugly our footy is, even I would need to concede that AOB is a great coach.

To the extent that I don't think he is that good a coach, I can't see how we'd make the top 4 with our halves.

What people don't get or are incapable of understanding is that AOB coached what he had, your never going to get a million dollar performance out of Hastings, Gamble and Cogger and he gave the team a basic game plan to suit.

Yes, it was boring, but did we make the 8 after missing Ponga for half a year, Best, Frizz, Gags, Safs, and other key players for long period, we did.

Or my fav, people bagging the halves, roulette and saying pick and stick, yeah stick with a combo thats not working and come last - yeah baby!

This year he is obviously going for more attack if the Sharpe move to the halves is true, if that is a success I wonder how people will continue to lay the boot into a coach that made the finals 4/5 years.

But anyway - sack Obi.

I did say pushing top 4. To me that means in contention for it late in the year, not busting our backsides just to make the 8.

If we make top 4, or are in contention for it late in the year, OB will have done well.

If we play another year of inconsistent footy, where we look like we just hope to win, then I'm going to call a spade a spade and make no apology in doing so.

Others can make the excuses and lift OB up, I won't be.

9 other sides that would give their kidneys to have been in the 8?

Your acting like we just dodged the spoon, we also came 15 minutes off making week 2 again.
