Looking at it purely from the perspective of the future because we’re just marking time this season now:
- The only notable difference with Crossland in over Hastings is that the left sided half at second receiver moves about twice as fast going to the line & doesn’t get easily beaten constantly in defence. Probably fewer hospital balls to the back rower too.
- Gamble is probably the best half at the club right now.
- Energy levels look notably higher without Jackson out there, probably because his teammates don’t like him.
I sincerely think he may have played his last game for us. No matter what Parr says, getting dropped to play 13 in Reggies and replaced by a hooker in firsts screams “we’ve ****ing had it mate, get lost.”
Gamble will always be the 6 when fit in the short to medium term & a key voice on the field, and AOB will always play with a passing 13 at first receiver. Even if it doesn’t translate to much more than mediocrity in the short term, we’re still an obvious candidate for a talented young half to play that spot on the left side, in a system which puts pressure on the guys around him and lessens it on the young fella.
